We drove here from Granollers, which we thought was a 60km drive. Even at the high speeds people drive at in this area, it tooks us an hour and a half. It was a beautiful drive, though, so no regrets. The monestary had only a few visitors when we were there. We joined a Catalan tour, though we had English... More

I'm still bothered by our visit to this monastery. As the positive other reviews you will see indicate, it is indeed a wonderful site. The monastery, likely because it is still a functioning monastery, is beautifully maintained, and the older sections have been beautifully restored. We went to Poblet Monastery on Monday, October 3, 2011. We took a train out of Barcelona to Tarragona; took the bus from the bus station (a 10 minute walk from the train station) toward Lleida; and got off at Poblet and walked to the monastery. A very good tour and we are definitely pleased we took the time to... More

The history, the architecture, the fact that it's one of the few remaining active Cistercian monasteries or that it's a UNSECO World Heritage Site...there are so many reasons to visit. I would certainly recommend this as a place to visit if you're in this part of Spain. Some parts are out of bounds to visitors, as there are still monks... More

The structure is magnificent and though it was destroyed as badly as most Spanish monasteries, it has been almost fully restored by the monks who have returned to live here. You never see the monks but Poblet somehow feels like a living thing rather than a cold (though beautiful) corpse, which is the vibe at Santes Creus. That said, the... More
