You can get up close to the old Torre Clavero but unfortunately you can't get inside. From it's roof turrets there would probably be some great views. It's down the side of the central hill between the Rua Mayor and the Grand Via. However it makes for a good photo subject.

Salamanca has a fascinating, well-preserved and  intact old town with Renaissance and Plateresque architecture. My husband and I only had an afternoon so we needed to prioritised what we saw. There are several highlights not to be missed, namely:- ▪The Catedral  Vieja and Nueva (old and new) whose altar piece in the old Cathedral dates from 1445. We found that tower and liked what we saw. As mentioned earlier the tower is quite unusual as it's square at the base and octagonal at the top. Seems like it's a private property so no entrance for visitors.

The tower dates to the 15th century and was part of the palace of Francisco Sotomayor, who was a highly placed member of the Order of Alcantara.
