The park is huge and the lighthouse can be seen on a steep cliff hanging over the Atlantic ocean. Stunning view, strong wind and savage country side. The access from the park to the Cabo Mayor is through a narrow path and stairs. In front of the lighthouse there is a monument to the victims of the civil war and... More

A small park that sits around the Cabo Mayor lighthouse. It is not very big but has spectacular views of the city, the Sardinero beaches and the peninsula de La Magdalena. On a clear day you can see far along the coast towards the Basque Country. On stormy days the waves beating against the cliffs make an impressive show.

Was a blustery day when we went, but didn't rain. Spectacular views and crashing waves. Couldn't get into the light house as it was closed for siesta but went for a long walk around the area. Went to cafe El forno next to it but was average and more expensive than in the town but your paying for the views.... More

The lighthouse is a feature landmark of the landscape but also contains a museum with great historical features and an art gallery with art themed around the lighthouse and the sea.

Not to strenuous and well worth the effort of the climb up to the lighthouse with superb views of the Santander bay. I used Google Earth to locate the pathway at the beginning of the walk next to the café bar Caronna which served a good coffee on our return.

This park is full of abundant wildlife, breathtaking scenery and many interesting species of butterflies and birds. It's a highlight of Santander, and a good opportunity to be away from people yet not completely away. The rocks here are excellent for walkers, the altitude is impressive enough, and it's all spotlessly clean mostly. You should arrive here by carefully following... More

We followed the Matalenas coastal path to the Faro de Cabo Mayor. Lots of information boards along the path explain the different sea-birds that can be seen. The coastal views are spectacular and the path is an easy walk. We went on a Monday and the lighthouse was closed....it didn't really matter as it was worth the walk for the... More

The park is amazing! You can get here by foot from the beach area of Santander in about 2 hours walk, by attending the stairs behind Hotel Ciqoui and take time to admire the views and take amazing photos. If you are lazy tipe you can go also by bus, nr 13 which take you right up to the lighthouse!... More

We started our Santander trip by visiting the lighthouse and walking around in the surrounding hills. You can have amazing views over the coastline and with good weather this is perfect for a picnick with friend. Surely recommendable to spend an hour there walking around and enjoying the view!
