Nice beach in a protected cove

The beach makes a large "half moon" and is surrounded by a boardwalk (brick), with lots of restaurants and bars. The water was very clean and the boardwalk was nice.

the place is very windy and often cloudy. so, despite being very nice looking, it was no good for a proper beach holiday. if you're looking for laying lazily in the sun, choose Maspalomas in the south of the island instead.

It is a delight to walk out of our apartment each day onto the Canteras and walk up to our favourite spot at the end. Coffee at one of the many cafe/restaurants on the way and more coffee and/or wine on the way back later- always with a wonderful view of the beach and the sea. Love it.

It Is a nice beach but very breezy, it was still very busy on our visit. There are various shops, cafes and restaurants around the bay along with a few stalls selling various homemade artiifacts. Nice place but there are nicer beaches on the Island in my opinion.

40 years says it all! Its my favorite place, its real, with local people not just tourists. I am not stuck in a rut, I also go to other places every year but Las Canteras is home. The front line restaurants are ok but don't judge the area on them alone, much better value and quality on the back streets,... More

Very nice. 3 km beach promenade with restaurants and bars. Water looking clear. Unfortunately it was clouded and very windy during our stay so we didn’t use that beach – but had to go south to get some sun.

Stayed here for 3 weeks in winter 2014 before going to Maspalomas - weather in Las Palmas is 5 deg colder than South of the Island and always cloudy and windy. Revisited in Feb 2015 and same weather - great for shopping and walking around (there is a 5km walking track measured out from the theatre at the end of... More

We stayed here for a week in a private apartment we booked through owners direct. Our apartment overlooked the beautiful stretch of beach. The sunsets are amazing here. The beach is very clean and the tide goes out a long way leaving lots of rocks pools etc to look for marine life. The promenade is very long and always clean.... More

My impression of Gran Canaria is that it has at least two main vibes. Down south, near Maspalomas, are all the big, touristy attractions, water parks, theme parks, shopping centers, etc. Up north is where the "real people" are. It's very Spanish, but with a complete mix of ages and lifestyles (there's a joyful gay population mixed in with everyone).... More

Could not believe how clean the beach was - cleaned everyday - the public loos extremely clean and a life guard was on duty all day with frequent public announcements regarding the sea conditions. Very close to all bars & restaurants.
