We came by car and found great and very convenient parking at Mercado de Vegueta. Wandering around the old streets just looking at the architecture with beautiful lattice-work balconies and realizing that it was founded in as long ago as 1478 and I believe the first city to have a Plaza Mayor (main square) you felt the history of this... Spanish American colonial architecture was developed first in the Canaries. La Laguna, in the neighboring island of Tenerife, is probably more famous, but Vegueta, the old city of Las Palmas, is a little jewel that will give you a glimpse of life in centuries past. The Casa de Colón (a museum about Columbus journeys in a great building) is worth... More

Old town is lovely to stroll around - the cathedral is worth seeing and going to the top off to see the veiws over the city.

This is absolute most of your into history and/or architecture. This is a area of old Las Palmas that has retained much of its original character. The area is a series of old historical streets to wonder around, with old door ways and court yards and squares There are some nice little bars to stop for a drink. The area... More

One of the best parts of Las Palmas de GC. The old city where you can find some nice restaurants and nice places to visit. Cathedral, Casa Colon, Teatro Guiniguada etc. Worthwhile a trip and it is nearby to the shopping street Triana.

Visiting Vegueta felt like coming to a very tranquil place from Cristobal Colón. Quite a contrast to busy Las Palmas. Lovely to stroll around and just enjoy the beautiful architecture and calmness. Its a must if you visit the island. So different from the not so nice Gran Canaria.

Old town feel and an enjoyable amble but as with further north I suggest avoiding the tourist food outlets and go to the market where a few authentic food outlets will serve you well.

Las Palmas is much more than Las Canteras and walking the cosy streets of Vegueta as a nice experience. If you come by car it us handy to park at Mercado de Vegueta - also if you combine it with a visit to Triana

Vegueta is a beautiful area of Las Palmas and is situated in the old town amongst scenic old buildings including the cathedral and quaint churches. One of the best days to visit is on a Thursday where all the tapas bars are open late. There are also local markets and mainstream shops including m&s for those that wish to do... More
