This church almost collapsed. It is build on a difficult site and is restored at this moment. Visitors can get a guided tour on wednesdays. The church is not open on other days. Very interesting to see all the concrete work that is done in the basement. Even more special is the tour over the balconies in the top of... More

We went on a hard hat tour of the restoration work of Santa Maria. We were in a small group and it was all in Spanish but we understood enough. It was fascinating seeing the restoration work in the crypt and up high inside the walls as well.

I liked the friendly guide who took us on a tour from the cript to the highest point of the Cathedral. As the building is being rebuilt from the bottom up we had the chance to see the work happening so had to wear hard hats. This was essential as parts of the building were narrow. A brilliant opportunity to... More

Excellent historical site. Excellent Medieval site for those interested in this period of history. Seeing the Medieval walls of the city was an experience I will remember.

Although not religious, I love churches for their architecture and space and the cathedral of Santa Maria which is currently undergoing a major renovation and structural underpinning project is an absolute gem and a tour that you absolutely must take when you are in this city. Fascinating and rewarding in every way, I really enjoyed this!

After seing the cathedrals of Leon, Burgos, Santa Maria del Mar in Barcelona, Notre Damme of Paris...this isn't a great cathedral, or church. But the project that the city has taken on to rehabilitate, analyse, catalogue, study....everything about this building, and expose the work in progress is such a unique and wonderful experience. I assume that this won't be an... More

I set off for the Cathedral but the old town is such a maze I was going round in circles. I got there just before 10 am but trying to find the entrance for the tours is another trek. Due to an excessive aggrandisement of the building through the centuries the foundations were crumbling and the Cathedral had to be... More

We had to pay for admission although the building is being restored. After a queue we were told that it could only be seen on a guided tour. We should return the next day it we wanted it in English. For a European Heritage site supported by the money of taxpayers, this is not good enough.

Make sure you book a visit, otherwise you'll only see it from the outside, which is, let's be honest, quite poor look because of all the ladders and scaffoldings.
