Azkuna Zentroa houses a cultural and leisure space within one of the most emblematic buildings of the city, offering a wide variety of events for anyone who visits. A meeting point where you can share, learn and enjoy the different cultural, leisure and sports proposals aimed at all target publics either individually, in groups or as a family. The 43,000 square metres of Azkuna Zentroa have been erected in the old wine warehouse of the city. It is a building with a modern character where past, present and future blend together, declared "Heritage of Cultural Interest" by the Basque Government in 1999. The façades and part of the space, designed by the Bilbao architect Ricardo Bastida at the beginning of the 20th century, have been maintained and renovated. The exterior classicism contrasts with the unique, innovative and sober interior space designed by Philippe Starck, where the life and energy of Bilbao are crystallized. Exhibitions, concerts, conferences, children's workshops, physical activities of all kinds, reading area, a place to have a coffee, etc. The offer of Azkuna Zentroa is daily and highly varied thanks to its multidiscipline programme and extended opening hours. It doesn't matter whether your visit is a one-off or if you live in a nearby geographical area, you will always find an attractive proposal that suits you which you will thoroughly enjoy.

An old warehouse that is turned into a community space for the people to gather. Level one boosts some interesting pillars, each designed by someone famous. A beautiful heated indoor pool on the top floor, and a nice big terrace. A moms mento to the city and a tribute to the people of bilbao

Was surprise, the interior of the building could take your breath away. Glass swimming pool on the top of building, was the main attention of this building. Try to visit this place un the night to have different experience, impressive light with giant screen on the main enterance show a big red solar vídeo.

This is a hugely expensive arts centre, with pillars by Philippe Starck, gorgeous massive theatrical pieces that overwhelm. There is a library and a swimming pool up in the air - both are for the use of locals, but just looking at them is great. There's a cinema too.

Odds are you will be walking nearby as it is very centrally located in Bilbao. If you do, please visit the inside, good design work and the outside is worth a good look also.

I had 2 hours to kill before leaving for the airport to catch my flight and decided to do a bit of an architectural walking tour of the 'new' town. This was one of the buildings on my list. It's worth a look inside if you are passing by (entry is free).

If i hadn't seen this with my "Bilbao Greeter" who explained the history of this place and showed me the library, the swimming pool from below and explained the intentions of the architect, i probably wouldn't have appreciated it as much. It had nearly been torn down but was saved and i loved the result!

While this a fine example of urban renewal I don't understand why they want us to visit. For the most part it's a dark main floor with little to look at, a beautiful library building for locals and some food and drink locations. To be fair we did see a wonderful art exhibition in the basement and it was free... More
