A tourist place that must be seen, a lot of pinxos place, a cozy place. Sure you`ll find a perfect place to eat.

Most of the town's historic sites are located in or around this area. It is a typical European medieval town full of tourists, shops and restaurants. When we were there, most of the churches were closed, even the Cathedral.

Another old town, maybe little more locals than in most old towns but still it is just walking around and sitting in cafe's/bars at day time like in every old town, even thought the night life was good on the weekend (and dead during the week).

They serve nice breakfast here at different places close to the church. For dinner we didn't find any good restaurants during a week stay. We followed the spanish rule to eat after 10 pm, but since this is more a touristy area it is rather empty at 10 pm.

El Casco Viejo is the old town of Bilbao. It is cosy and tightly knit - as you would expect of an ancient city centre. The apartment blocks tend to have wooden shutters, instead of the plastic perciana shutters that roll down the windows of modern apartment blocks and everywhere is colourful with geraniums. It's bustling and fairly noisy. There... More

We were not that impressed with the old town, it smelt of drains and worse. The buildings had some interest but it was full of rubbish from the tapas bars and the plaza had a huge platform erected in it so last it feeling of space and grandeur.

the old part of Bilbao is a genuine and vibrant especially at weekends, where you can drink and eat and mingle as you should do with the locals. During the week is ideal for just wander around and looking for gifts. There are many attractions to see in the old part: museums and historic places to spend a nice day... More

You can walk it all and should. Great variety of stores, reasonably priced food and drink. Plan to stay up late; the fun starts around 8pm.

"Genuine" because the tourist shops and artisan boutiques are still few in number. (Hooray!) This is a dark, interesting and may be slightly oppressive/threatening (to some) quarter with long alleyways crowded with shops and bars spilling out the locals in noisy clusters. The squares (if you can find them) come as a huge relief, being open and full of families... More
