There are many people selling all sorts of things; honey, herbs, fruits, handmade toys, souvenirs, jewelry, etc. Has a friendly atmosphere, we really liked it there.

Weimar train station is in the outskirts! You get off, start walking, and think "is this it - for a long time! Trust me, the walk is well worth it. When do you do hit the town centre, there is plenty to see. Don't go on a Sunday unless you get there early. All the museums close at 4. There... More

The encircling buildings are lovely and dramatic. the selection of food, flowers, and other things offered for sale was quite large. Great cooked bratwurst and icecream available. Lao tourist information center

Can't miss it. Make your provisions of veggies. A very friendly feeling to the place. Quite a tradition in pretty much all German towns. Fresher items direct from the producer than frozen stuff in the store...)

Beautiful town center. Very busy, but a great place to "people watch" if you want. We got there just after the tree had been cut down. I haven't been able to find out the significance of the tree, but apparently every year a tree is put in the square, and then it is cut down the next year. I would... More

We were surprised to find a Christmas market here in the first January week! It is really small and cute and we enjoyed being able to catch up on some Christmas spirit without all the crowds. I'm not sure how much longer it will be there, but I suspect till three kings day on the 6th of January. It is... More

Rather touristic, but still nice - you are in a touristy mood after all. Plenty of historic ( renovated) buildings around you - and even the fake ones look very real...

There are a lot of reasons to go: 1. Thuringian bratwurst from a stand. They are so good. Not greasy at all and they totally overwhelm the bun they are in. 2. Main tourist info office on east side of the square. 3. Shopping, admiring the things in the market. 4. Really good ice cream (gelato) cafe on north side.... More

On the weekends when the weather is nice the Market Platz is filled with small food, produce and craft stalls. Try an original Thuringen Brat on a bun from one of several mobile stalls on the square --- along with a great German beer.

It is almost half a year since I visited Weimar market square and I remember two things - very beautiful City Hall (Rathaus), but local merchants were kind of pushy. Somebody can find it attractive and interesting, but I was not happy at all, when some suspicious guy was trying to sell me some faked branded T-shirt.
