Weimar's altstadt has a great relaxed vibe. Enjoy local cafes, walk along cobblestone streets and attractive architecture, see the historic Elephant Hotel, and stroll over the bridge to shady banks. Nice place for couples.

The Weimar's market square is a popular gathering place for social, foods and drinks. Come here you will find farmer's market varieties from fresh produce, fruits, cheeses, flowers and its famous original Thuringian long skinny grilled bratwursts tuck in small round buns and topped with stone ground mustard. You hold the bun and bite off the bratwurst from both ends... More

2014 was the 361st annual Onion Market in Weimar. It bills itself as the world's oldest Onion Market, occurring annually, despite wars and political change since 1653. It was a blast. 300,000 happy Germans descend on this quaint city of 60,000 locals. This is a unique 3 day event, always the second weekend in October, it truly has something for... More

There are many people selling all sorts of things; honey, herbs, fruits, handmade toys, souvenirs, jewelry, etc. Has a friendly atmosphere, we really liked it there.

Weimar train station is in the outskirts! You get off, start walking, and think "is this it - for a long time! Trust me, the walk is well worth it. When do you do hit the town centre, there is plenty to see. Don't go on a Sunday unless you get there early. All the museums close at 4. There... More

Can't miss it. Make your provisions of veggies. A very friendly feeling to the place. Quite a tradition in pretty much all German towns. Fresher items direct from the producer than frozen stuff in the store...)

Beautiful town center. Very busy, but a great place to "people watch" if you want. We got there just after the tree had been cut down. I haven't been able to find out the significance of the tree, but apparently every year a tree is put in the square, and then it is cut down the next year. I would... More

We were surprised to find a Christmas market here in the first January week! It is really small and cute and we enjoyed being able to catch up on some Christmas spirit without all the crowds. I'm not sure how much longer it will be there, but I suspect till three kings day on the 6th of January. It is... More
