The Domplatz is the main square of the town which hosts many activities,e.g , Produce markets, Flower and the Christmas Market ,when we visited the Erfurt Oktoberfest had taken over the entire area with a Biergarten garden, carnival rides and games .In order to visit the Dom you must pass through the Domplatz

If you are near the area, Domplatz is worth a visit. Yes, it's huge and it's old. The interior details are incredible, and it's easy to get caught up in the imagining the place in it's splendor hundreds of years ago. It's a fun, easy place to visit, and worth viewing.

They were setting up Oktoberfest while I was visiting, so I couldn't see the full scale of Domplatz, but it is huge and I assume always busy with something interesting. The backdrop of the cathedral and church are fabulous.

Erfurt is one of these former East German cities where not a lot of building was being done durin the communist reign. Subsequently nothing wasmaintained and a lot of beautifull old building fell in disrepair. After Die Wende these building were restored and now Erfurt has a beautifull city center.

Yes the Domplatz is impressive for its architecture, religious presence, scenic grandeur, and as an icon of the town of Erfurt. Several reviewers have noted this but I'd like to call attention to the huge public space in front of the stairs leading up to the churches. It can easily accommodate 10-to-15,000 people...maybe more. Perhaps a detailed history of the... More

Must see in Erfurt. Impressing. Two cathedrals close to each other. Both catholic churches but from different times. Worth to visit from inside as well. With Cranach paintings.
