The Dom provides a very scenic backdrop for the Christmas Market in Erfurt, Germany. Around the Dom Platz, we discovered several nice restuarants.

One of the most beautiful places in germany. Two churches standing near by near, the Dom (St. Mary's Cathedral) and the Severikirche. In the middle tower of St Mary´s Cathedral is the world's largest medieval free-swinging bell named Gloriosa.

It's hard to imagine a more attractive space. On one side the cathedral hill with its pair of striking churches, and ascending stairway. Around two sides enormously varied commercial buildings, from various centuries presenting, in places, a fairy-tale prospect, and on the final side the striking state court building, with the hill rising to the walls of the Petersberg citadel.... The view of the Dom and church, the great steps, the obelisk and half-timbered houses is as near perfection as you could find in a city, day and night.

We saw the Domplatz at night only, but the view is breathtaking. Just the cathedral is already very dramatic. We would have loved to stay longer and visit it during the day. Certainly one of the most impressive squares I have seen.

What an amazing square looking up at the cathedral. Definitely worth a visit when in Erfurt. This town is great and this area is the place to go into old town and see the sites.

Yes it's available on the Domplatz, along with a cold beer it may be the best lunch in the world. It comes hot off the grill with hot bread, cold beer and great mustard. I ate here at least 3 times while I was in Erfurt for less than a week

Visited in 2008, but cannot enter that date. We toured the town and really loved the architecture and stone interiors. People were very friendly. Very laid back and now modernized, but still holds the old country feel. Several small eateries in the square with great food. Prices were reasonable. I strongly suggest using your MC or Visa as the exchange... More

You will probably want to go here, but the large amount of traffic (auto and tram) between the churches (there are two) at the top of the hill and the main commercial district makes it a little less charming. it would be nicer if it were a pedestrian zone, and one must be careful of the traffic when crossing the...
