German has really nice cities and Luebeck is kind, simple and organized. I was there in December and they had a good Christima's market, nice place to meet people and eat some stuff. The commercial center is quite good also, with department stores, drugstores etc.. Worth a visit.
Lubeck is about 40 minutes in train from HAMBURG. Is a small village that combines old architecture with modern life. I went fir a short trip that lasted half a day, because all the atractions ( churches, rathouse, toers, etc) are really near you even can make the tour walking.
I recommend to visit this place to have a better taste...
