The best way to see the Bauhaus is to stay a couple of nights in the studio building. We were rather frustrated in trying to do this by the unhelpful woman who runs the accommodation office, however with help from a German friend and a lot of persistence we got a room. All the other people we met or dealt... More

I was passing through Dessau in a way to Cologne and decided to sleep there. When I woke up a asked at the hotel if there was anything interesting in Dessau. Well, there are many things! But the Bauhaus Foundation is a must! I could never imagine that it was that interesting. You can visit the hole Foundation and see... More

It was very impressive what Walter Gropius and the Bauhaus group achieved already in 1925. The guided tour of the museum was very interesting and informative. The staff in the museum shop was extremely friendly and very helpful. To walk around the museum after the guided tour was very pleasant as it gave us the opportunity to look at almost... More

For students of modern design, a visit to the Bauhaus is a must. From Walter Gropius' building, one receives a good overview of the movement. Most of the didactics are in English and German. The walk from the main train station is only about seven minutes, with many sign directing the way.

The beauty of modernist design totally surrounds you and you feel what it's really about. Can't be understood from photos or lectures.

Dessau is famous for it's BAUHAUS buildings and history, even the whole BAUHAUS area was re-built many decades ago, it still leads the trend of modern art in nowadays. The history of BAUHAUS in Dessau is a tragedy to me, but the spirit never die, it rebirth and regenerate everywhere in the world.

Having studied the Bauhaus movement and German it was wonderful to be able to stay as a Bauhausler in one of the student rooms and visit the Meisterhauser of Klee and Kandinski. The bistro served a good breakfast. The tour of the Meisterhauser was interesting and living there you got to appreciate the simple functionality of the design. We were... More

Visiting Dessau is a must if one is into modern art and architecture. Dessau is not far from Berlin, nor is it a big detour if one drives from Germany to the Czech Republic via Erfurt, Gera, and Weimar. I have wanted to go for many years and finally, this summer I was able to go. We also found an... More

Don't miss Dessau: you can visit the Bauhaus building, the houses of Paul Klee, Kandisky and other artists (designed by Bauhaus masters), and have lunch or a bite in the Kornhaus restaurante, by the river. Easy trip in train from Berlin. You can rent a bike right outside the station

...especially due to the knowledgable and commited guide who studied there. Recommended. Visit not complete without the "Meisterhäuser".
