We had 4 days in Dresden and decided to take half a day off to see the Meissen porcelain manufacture and museum. It takes 40 minutes ride by S1 train from Dresden main station to the Meissen Triebschtal station, and then 5-10 minutes walk per signs. Upon arrival we reviewed the museum than took a guided tour to see the... More

The tour of the factory, with English translation via headphones, gives a fascinating insight into how this beautiful china is made and painted. In each room you see craftsmen at work, demonstrating their skill. The shop gives you the opportunity to purchase - but requires a healthy bank balance! More

Chinese porcelein when found gives a glimpse of their culture. This factory is one of the oldest in Europe and it is a wonder it withstood and adopted the... More

Couldn't afford the beautiful stuff but satisfied myself with some plain pieces, but aside from that the tour and explanation is terrific. Not to be missed. Make sure to ask for the headphones for the English translation. Only downside is that when questions are asked, unless you know the German language you are left to guess what is being said. More

Unless you have a special interest in porcelain you will be bored after 20 minutes of this one and a half hour experience. Other sites in this pretty town are more interesting. More

The Meissen china is world renowed as the first of its kind in Europe. We visited the museum and did the guided tour including a short film on the history of Meissen and 4 craftsmen demonstrating their exquisite technique requiring years of training on the job. Adjacent you find an outlet shop with discounts of 20-50% on products of 2nd... More
