Super paintings, great archeological exhibits, some riveting statuary and a terrific quiet ambience when we were there. Worth every minute.

The Zwinger consist from 12 museums - Alte Meister Galerie, Armoury, Museum of Sculpture, Museum of porcelaine, Mathematic-Physic exhibition, Museum of Minerals and many others. Alte Meister - is #1 museum in Dreiden or even in Germany. But don't miss Armoury too! It's great! The collection is so big! Even if you're not weaponry and armament fan you'll be impressed... More

The museum is very well laid out and lighted. The collection is mostly local, but very interesting. I could have used more information of the plastic arts in the DDR.

The collection is extensive and interesting but unfortunately photos are not allowed. The audio tour (included in the price of the ticket) does an excellent job of introducing each room and providing additional information about specific pieces. It is great that you can spend as much time as you want in each room. What can be improved is the clarity... More

Fun to walk around the Gallery district - especially considering this is former East Germany. A lot of glass-work; some beautiful antiques including embroidered clothing and tablecloths; lots of jewellry; interesting things to take home for your house - if you have the room for them; can sometimes see the influence of mid-century modern German expressionist work

This was a highlight of my trip to Dresden, Germany! The amazing gold work and carved ivory pieces were a true wonder to see. Wonderful solid gold pieces of art encrusted with gems. Intricate ivory, silver and gold pieces. The visit was then topped off by the green wall. An amazing display of a huge green diamond pendant. Wow. Truely a... More

I don't think that most of the other reviews here actually understand what the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden *is*. It is NOT the Old Master's Gallery. It is a consortium of 12 different museums which collectively form the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden. It encompasses many different buildings in several parts of the city. If you visit Dresden, chances are you're visiting most... More

The Sistine Madonna by Rafael is the start of the show and with god reason! It is well worth seeing. The rest of the collection is devoted to 17th and 18th century European painting.
