We took the cable cars up to the fort and got a joint purchase discount price. There was a medieval celebration going on up there and it was amazing to see all the people dressed up and partaking in medieval activities. I would say the fort is well worth a visit even on normal days just for the views.

My one complaint about visiting Festung Ehrenbreitstein is that it's no longer free just to go in and wander the outdoor spaces as it has been for decades. That's kind of stinky and I take it a bit personally as my uncle was one of the fortress's defenders at the end of World War II. I like visiting the tomb... More

This is an enormous area of fortification built over many centuries. The most spectacular way to access it is by cable car over the Rhine from Koblenz.. There is masses to see - prison cells, guard rooms, museum items and plenty of fortified walls to scramble up among large grassy areas. There is a magnificent view from the battlements over... More

If you go, plan for at least five hours. There's several cafes within the fortress and you can sit for a while on a hot day and have a beer. As for turning the kids loose? I'd only do it if they have a handy or walky-talky. This is a large area and gathering them up later would be a... More

I enjoyed walking through the fort, but found the lack of information in English to be a problem. The info sheet we got when we bought the tickets said there was an audio guide in many languages but we never found it and didn't see anyone else with a headset. The views of the river and city speak for themselves... More

The combination of history, peace and quiet and a breathtaking view make this a must-visit attraction when in Koblenz. Whether you want to have a beer overlooking Koblenz or walk around learning about the history of the fortress or... do both. A definite recommend!

If you enjoy learning a little history and love to have a nice overview over the city, then this is a good recommendation. Easy to access by car or cablecar. The view over the city is fenomenal. Here you can see the strong currents of the Rhine colliding with the Mosel. (tip: look for boats struggling with the currents when... More

I was there several times. the fortress is alright, worth a visit. But the best part if the view over the river and the whole city from the fortress. Outstanding view on sunny days! The funicular (seilbahn) is also worth a try to get different views of both the city and the fortress.

Very interesting place to visit. Amazing view of Koblenz. A great day out. Be careful everything in the fortress is written in German.

We went as a group in the evening as there was a light show on the apparently only happens for one week of the year . It was a nice cable car ride up to the fortress and it was very atmospheric . It was a very enjoyable evening . Some of the group went back the next day and... More
