On a short stop-over at Dusseldorf make time for a stroll through the Altstadt and along the Rhine. Lots of stops for people watching, shopping Alt Bier and authentic local food. A fun few hours.

To really get the most out of this you need a few days. There are so many pubs and restaurants you get confused with choice. Also a lovely fresh food and fruit market.
A great long walk from the Mediahaven neighborhood to the Aldstadt (old town) and all around this older part of the city along the Rhine, topped off with wienerschnitzel and plenty of the local Altbier. If you don't like the Konigsallee, you might like this, as it's quite the opposite: busy, cheap, and filled with tourists or, as in our case, with soccerfans. We spent just 20 minutes there. That was enough.
Famous is the special beer from Düsseldorf, the Altbier ("old beer"), brewed from an old traditional recipe, which is only brewed in a few places in the world since the end of the 19th century. Excellent beer and sausages, nice hospitable people.
