The story here is that benevolent creatures would come and clean the houses of all the people living in Cologne. This gave the citizens of Cologne an easy life. One night a curious woman strewed (uncooked) peas all over the floor of her workshop so the creatures would slip and fall and make nose so she could come running and... More

At the end of our Vantage river cruise, our stop in Cologne had us on a walking tour of the city. After the tour we were meeting up with our shipmates at the Fruh Restaurant that was right behind this statue. The statue looks like it is telling the story of gnomes working hard at their jobs while others are... More

During our city tour of Cologne with a local guide, we learned the local version of the story of this fountain. The story goes that the elves had promised to do the work of the carpenter, tailor, baker, butcher, etc. as long as no human laid eyes on them. So rather than work, they simply drank and slept and left... More

From a famous Cologne poem this fine art piece commemorates the Heinzelmännchen and the tailor's wife of that poem's story. If you are into Arts and magic tales this will be awesome to see. Conveniently located near the Cologne Cathedral.

It's right where Früh brewery is and opposite the Dom. The story told here is famous and the Brunnen itself is a nice piece worth looking at.

The story behind the staircase sculpture (a very popular place for sightseeing) goes like this: the cobblers' work always got done at night and the wife wondered how that was happening. She put dried peas on the stairs down to the workroom and, in the evening, the helper elves slipped on them. She held up her lantern to see them... More

There are many places changing but to understand the Rhine mentality you must know the Heinzelmänchen story.

Nice fountain in the city centre of Cologne. You could easily miss it as it appears that the locals do not really appreciate it and just pass by.

Our hotel room directly overlooked this fountain (it is in the square where the Cathedral is situated). Many tourists stopped by to take photographs and tour groups stopped to discuss it. Once you know the story behind this fountain and stonework of little elves, it makes so much more sense. It is absolutely worth stopping by to have a look... More

Have walked a group to see this statue/fountain, which is very near to Cologne cathedral. It tells the story of the little people who came out at night & did the work for the citizens of Cologne (the tailor, cobbler, baker etc), until one night the tailors wife was so curios that she laid a trail of dried peas, the...
