Beautiful modern building. Even if a lot of the art doesn't grab you - and with contemporary art, that's not uncommon - there building is such a great display space. Good selection of Joseph Beuys, two temporary exhibitions going at any one time plus the permanent collection. Slightly lacking in the normal 20th century art you might expect in a... More

I was really surprised by the poor quality of the collection. The building must have cost a fortune, but the only artist I had heard of was August Macke (who is a not very good expressionist painter). The usual collection of faux art: white canvases, piles of sticks on the ground, a (non-operational) bar. This one had, as an added... More

This open, light-filled, welcoming museum has plenty to gaze at and some art you can pass on by. There are lots of big names with multiple works in the collection, and perhaps too many which were unknown to me. I'm not sure how many of these less familiar artists will eventually enter the canon of art history, but it was... More

Despite having a fantastic building dedicated to itself, the exhibits displayed in this museum weren't that attractive. Perhaps, availability of greater amount of english material, and more reasonably priced catalogues (especially those of August Macke) in the bookshop, would make the visits more effective.

While on an afternoon visit of the city, I bumped into that little modern art gallery. It is interesting to take a few minutes and visit it.

For a small regional museum, there is a good enough collection... the obvious names... nothing overly exceptional... BUT, the whole experience is let down by their attendants! Officious, overbearing, and have no idea about how to engage with an audience. In fact, I would say avoid the place but unfortunately this appears to be prevalent in a number of Bonn... More
