From Rostock to Schwerin takes about an hour on the train where we visited the breathtaking castle and lake, market square, government building, Schweriner Dom (Roman Catholic cathedral constructed in 1249). We had a coffee and sweet at a cafe in the market square and for lunch we had “Sunday roast” at a lake-side restaurant before a visit to the... More

We went for the day to Schwerin as I wanted to visit the castle, and it was beautiful! We wanted to take a tour inside, and were greeted by a very rude man (very unlike German hospitality!). The cost is 6 Euro's per adult, or 10 Euro's for a family. We were 2 adults and were charged 12 Euro's -... More

We were in Warnemünde as a cruise stop. Since we had been to Rostock, we decided to travel to Wismar and the Schwerin Castle using a value-for-money one-day Mecklenburg-Vorpommern train ticket. The castle looks very magnificent in all the bird-eye view pictures in google. However, you won't have the opportunity to look at it from the sky when you get... More

Castle is fantastic and it was nice to have an audio tour in English. Gardens were beautiful even on a rainy day.

We were staying in Berlin, but took a day train out to see Schwerin Castle. We were so glad that we did! A great town. The castle was magnificent, and the gardens behind the castle were just fantastic. A wonderful time.

If castles are your thing, this may disappoint. As castles go, it is on the 'new' side. Four of us went to visit as we drove from Hamburg to Berlin. It was a nice break in the trip. The castle was certainly beautiful, and we learned a bit of history. The town was cute. I would not rate this as... More

I liked the gallery of paintings of the dukes of Mecklenburg. The rooms of the museum ppart of the castle are very grand and overwhelming. The gardens surroundings of the Castle which has a perfect setting overlooking Lake Schwerin are beautiful.

Walking around the castle is nice and the inside is beautiful. Be sure to have cash, they don´t take any form of credit cards.

Schweriner Schloss has had a long, eventful and varied history. The present palace dates back from the mid-19th century when a certain duke had enough dislike with the buildings' incongruent origin and style that he decided to remodel the palace but was halted by his successor who wanted a complete reconstruction of the palace - some parts of the older... We opted to see Schwerin Castle instead of taking the 3 hour train ride to Berlin on our cruise ship stop in Warnemuende. The castle was gorgeous on the outside with a beautiful lake surrounding it. Take the time to walk around the castle and see the grounds, there are lovely little bridges and grottos around the lake with swans.... More
