The Schwerin Castle is a romantic fairytale fortress on a small island in lake Schwerin. It has many towers, domes and wings that are reflected nicely in the waters of Lake Schwerin. Best is to arrive to Schwerin on a boat from the other side of the lake. You can see the castle from the lake as the boat is... More

Schwerin was a total surprise to us. We had not expected such a delightful town and the Schloss and it's gardens were the best surprise of all.

The Schloss was excellent, the gardens beautiful - and the setting beside the lake supurb. The contents of the castle - ceramics, paintings, silverware and especially the wooden panneling too were very good. My lunch besides the water - pasta and a glass of white German wine - most enjoyable. However, the security guard informed me in very broken English... More

I can't imagine a person visiting Schwerin and not coming close to the Schloss. People, even in everyday life, wander through the park around it, there are restaurants in the garden as well as inside, they come with children to see the swans, there is a church attached to the Schloss, and then there is the huge area the is... Nice museum but also seat of the landtag. They are currently in full archeological dig and restauration. We went to a free concert in the just restaured chapel. Some of the personnel still thinks that they still live in the DDR, i.e. they don’t care about the customer. We got in because we had small change. The lady at the... More

This is a lovely castle - approach it by boat if you can. It helps to have a tour guide to explain the history and artifacts. Our guide from VIP Hanse was great. The outside of the castle and grotto are charming. Legend has it if you cross the wooden bridge to the island holding hands you will be together... More

The Castle just looks like its out of a fairy tale, we did pay to go inside and although it is undergoing renovation it is still worth a visit, an audio in English did drone on slightly but was in some ways too informative.

The Schweriner Castle is beautiful. Set on an island it is an impressive site as you cross the bridge from the town. The grounds are beautiful and the orangerie is especially worth a look. The inside is also impressive with many artefacts on display and beautiful decorations.

Georgeous setting in spacious grounds surrounded by a lake. The rooms are not finished yet but sooo much to restore. Another building to repair. la traviatta opera was being performed at the entrance . Would be a good o/n for future reference.

A beautiful castle on a great location on a small island in a lake. It's nice just to walk around the castle and in the beautiful gardens (for free) but it is also very nice to visit the castle itself. Besides nicely decorated rooms there is a weapon exhibit and nice cutlery and porcelain.
