If in Wiesbaden you MUST make sure you take time to visit the State Theatre and Opera House. Last month we enjoyed a performance of La Boheme and previously had been to the ballet there. The opera house is a magnificent building and the bar area at interval time is truly amazing.

If you are into opera, stage plays, or any other staged presentations, then this is the place for you. The old-world charm oozes from every corner from the foyer to the stage. It's great.

I attended the theatre for a piano recital and was pleased to find the acoustic was excellent. The interior of the theatre is well worn but still very attractive and there's a pleasingly intimate atmosphere. I would imagine going to see an opera in these surroundings would be a great experience.

I do not like modern ballet, but the dancers here were very good and obviously modern dance is popular. The theatre is excellent

The theater is very nice in its style - lots of crystal, gold, etc. but elegant and cozy. we saw a number of performances there and staging was not to our liking - modern 'reading' of classical operas.

My daughter's school class attended a production (I got to go along) of Peter's World Tour (It was in German, I think that is an ok translation) and it was the first time I had been inside this gorgeous building. The outside is a landmark in Wiesbaden, along side the casino and across the street from the markt platz. The... More

Beautiful building masterfully kept up and maintained, within viewing distance to the Kurhaus and just a pleasure to look at. Ideally, try to purchase a ticket for a performance for the big hall (das Große Haus) which will allow you to take a look at the very rich interior. Nicely nestled in a wide park area, so enjoy a stroll... More

Give yourself a shot of culture and brag about it...(even of you find it actually boring). A sitcom is more entertaining, I know, I know, but still this is an experience.

I attended a "Tosca" at this very elegant opera house and was delighted by the performance and dazzled by the beauty of the facilities. Wiesbaden was spared the damage of other Geman cities during WWII and retains its elegant ambiance everywhere we went. The chandelier is a veritable work of art. The restaurant was very good and elegant, but pricey.

From my quick glance, here is my impression: really worthwhile to visit. The inside is royal, like in Vienna. Apart from the main auditorium, there are smaller halls with interesting peformances. Afterwards, you can take a walk in the Wilhelmstrasse, the closeby park "Warmen Damm" or visit the Casino.
