I have now been here three times. Once for Dido/Bluebeard which was sensational and which I followed up to Edinburgh. Once for Fanciulla del West with Eva-Maria Westbroek which was great fun. And just now for Daphne with Maria Bentsson which was utterly ravishing. All I want to say is that this is an outstanding company and if you go... More

Good singers, good directing and good conducting. All from artists that are not widely known but then Frankfurt Oper did win a best opera company award last year. My 10 yera old son really enjoyed this - his first opera - despite the German surtitles and the French singing; a tribute to the cohesiveness of the production.

Last week I was there to see Giacomo Puccini's "Tosca". Although the music and acting was quite satisfactory (the only thing I did not like was the omission of the overture), the the opera house itself is actually not as beautiful as other opera houses in Germany and in other major European cities. The seats are quite comfortable but there... More

Maybe I was influenced by the fact I played in this magnificent hall..?! but I was so impressed by the quality of the acoustic and the splendor of the building, inside and outside...really worth a visit !

If you come here to see an architecture wonder like those in Vienna or Norway, forget it. The building is so ordinary. The interior is so simple there is little waiting space. The seating is limited. But they host very good performance of Tosca during the new year season. Frankfurt being a major city of a country crazy for opera,... More

Anyone who goes to the opera in the UK and/or US will be knocked over by the value of tickets at the new Frankfurt opera house. The auditorium isn't huge and the acoustic is amazing so I'm not sure there's a bad seat in the house, just some seats with a more angled view. I'm so impressed and bowled over... More

Over two years we have been to four operas here and have always been disappointed by the productions. Although the music has always been fine, the sets and costumes have been so determinedly modern that they have detracted from the performance to the extent that we both found we were listening with our eyes shut. We are not normally averse... More

This is a small building compared to any other major opera house around the world; however, it does not lack any of the finesse and class of the rest. They keep it neatly and it is definitely one place to visit while in Frankfurt.

Your picture is of the "Alte Oper", which is the city's main concert hall. The Frankfurt Opera is a modern building next to the ECB.
