Good look back in time

I'm not a fan or Goethe one way or another. I did enjoy the intimate look at his life and this residence's history. It wasn't very expensive either. I think 10€ for my Family of... read more

Even as an informed Indian, I was not surprised to have almost no knowledge of Goethe. The name is hardly known in Indian subcontinent, and I was hence curious to know about this man was regarded to be the Shakespeare of Germany. I must say that I was ignorant of the fact that there is a Goethe Institute here in... More

This little place went well beyond my expectations. This wasn't really a typical museum, but was a chance to walk through Goethe's family's house. There were written guides available in 6 languages and they offered interesting details on each room. There was tons of beautiful art and furniture in the house including sketches done by Goethe himself. We spent 1.5... More

I appreciated this museum not only for the literary value of being in the house where Goethe grew up and wrote some of his earliest works, but also because it's a very neat historical building too. The museum gives you an overview of Goethe's life and the history of the museum itself, and it has a very neat art gallery.

I'm not a fan or Goethe one way or another. I did enjoy the intimate look at his life and this residence's history. It wasn't very expensive either. I think 10€ for my Family of three? I didn't find a lot of things to do in Frankfurt. This, the Zoo and the New Years fireworks by the River were probably... More

My understanding is that most of Frankfurt was demolished by Allied bombs during the second world war, but this house has somehow been restored authentically to its former glory. Its populated with historical furniture, and exhibits some unique paintings as well. Seems a very popular visit for anyone interested in Goethe. It definitely gives a visitor the feel of what... This museum is combined to the Goethehaus. After enjoying the ambiance with colorful rooms with quality decorations from old days, then you can proceed to the museum building. Although it is not a massive museums, you would find some art works that lure your interest. It is within the walking distance from the city centre, and not too crowded. That... More

Went here after visiting Goethe Haus. There were some really nice paintings and busts on display. Worth visiting if you're already seeing Goethe Haus...wouldn't bother if you weren't already there though, there are better (and much larger) art museums in Frankfurt.

The museum was very hard to find as it's in a little side street. We were greet by rude cashiers who paid no attention to me at the counter. They had that stuck up attitude and aren't fit to work in a place where so many people come to visit. I was rudely told to lock my bags in a... More
