This lake is the most amazing place I have ever been. Located in the downtown of Hamburg. to get there you can a bus or metro or walking by. Hamburg is not a big city but the stunning scenarios will remind in your memory for life. My favorite restaurant are Rathauskeller where you will find a typical german kitchen with... More

We took a trip of the Binnen- and Aussenalster and the canals. It was 2 hours' worth of hilarious entertainment! Obviously one cannot guarantee getting the same guy doing the commentary, so I should say whether the trip is enjoyable generally - it is! Beautiful lakes, beautiful shores and a fantastic view of the Hamburg skyline.

Hamburg is one of my favorite bigger cities because it manages to have the action of a big city without becoming a jungle of asphalt. The Alster lakes give you a break right in the center of the city. There are several boa trips on the lakes but I suggest just taking a nice walk.

We spent two hours on a nice boat trip on the Alster cruising also some internal waterways. It was a lovely experience. N.B. the explanations on the boat are only given in German.

A lovely peaceful way to spend a couple of hours sailing around the lake and surrounding canals. Make sure the boat you choose has english commentary on board or you will not have a clue what is going on. The boats have toilets and a bar, a large covered area with table and chairs and a small seated outside area.... More

Take a Sunday stroll along the Alster, it's what Hamburgers do. The view is spectacular from whatever vantage point, and the majority of it is pedestrian accessible. When the spring bulbs are in bloom, the sailboats glide across the water, and the cafes are open it's perfection.

It was a sunny spring warm afternoon. The light was perfect and the breeze was gentle. Lots os people exercising while flowers started to bloom.

Not a must do but a pleasant hour though the narration is in German ( For English you get an audio guide which was difficult to hear above the amplified German Guide ). Better is to ride a ferry in the Elbe, free if you've got Hamburg Card.

We took the Alster boat trip (schippern) from Jungfernstieg (city center of Hamburg), going round the inner(smaller) and outer Alster lake. The journey lasted about an hour, it was a nice experience but shame the commentary was only in German.
