Nice place for running, biking and walking and also for watching the beautiful sunset. You'll see people of all ages working out here during the entire day. Really vivid area! You can take a tour by boat too.

I visited the Alster Lakes three times while I was in Hamburg. Once for ice cream and a rest with our toes in the water, once for a romantic walk through town after dinner to see the fountain on the southern end, and a third time, my friends and I canoed from our the flat through the canals to the... One my best experiences while staying in Hamburg for four days attending a congress was the location of my hotel, just in front of Alster Lakes. This allowed me to go out running any early morning around the lake, enjoy the excellent views and see all the nice houses and villas which surround the lake. A must if you are... More

We did a boat trip around the Alster Lakes on the St Georg which seems to be cheaper and run more frequently than many of the other boats. It was a very relaxing ride of about an hour round the two connected lakes. It was a bit disappointing that the commentary was only in German. The crew did invite our... More

Hamburg is built around the Harbour and separately the centre of town is the Alster lake ...split into two lakes in fact. You could take a boat trip but I would recommend to go to the large restaurant / coffee bar that sits at the end of the lake (Alster Pavillion) ...Here you can get your Apfelstrudel, or Black Forest... A few hours cruising on the lake on the ferry boats with a lunch stop at on elf the piers proved to be a marvellous way to enjoy one of Hamburg's greatest features.

A vibrant and peaceful place at the same time, in the city centre. Lots of restaurant and clubs, and also good for an evening or daytime walkabout

Lake is surrounded with lots of greenery, benches and kiosks for drinks and quick snacks. Beautiful place to walk around, sit and enjoy sunny days in Hamburg.

Two huge artificial lakes at the very heart of Hamburg open up the city and give it a spatially unique feel. You can walk/bike around the lakes or take a boat trip across them to soak in the city's architecture and its atmosphere. They are great places to people watch, relax and recharge your batteries, while the kids can run around to...
