We visited in the winter a couple of years ago, probably January/ Feb '11 and the Alster was frozen solid. We were able to walk over it and had hot wine and food on the ice. So many locals were there as it is quite an event for the Alster to be frozen solid! Families, young and old were enjoying... More

I wonder how they have managed to keep this 'sea of tranquility' in the teeming metropolis. Beautiful as it can get. Alster lake cruise can really help you to relax. Unsurprisingly , the prime residences around this lake are occupied by multimillionaires

We booked tickets to do the 2 hour Lake and canal tour with Alster Schippen and very quickly wished we hadn't. When we booked the tickets at the booth we spoke english to the woman and she didn't mention that the entire commentary is in German, great is you speak German, really boring and slightly pointless if you don't. Also,... More

After hustle and bustle of a busy shopping spree the Alster lakes are a wonderful antidote. You can walk by the water with joggers and walkers zipping past. A must see.

Hamburg Lakes are something beautiful to enjoy. Lots of smalls paths to walk around the lake with multiples places to stop and have a break. There is a small fountain in the middle of one of the Lakes (like the one in Geneva), and there are lots of boat options if you want to hop on for a ride. You... More

We wend on a steam boat around the lakes. Lovely old boat took us on a leisurely tour of the lake. Famous buildings were pointed out and we sailed close to multi-million pound mansions

A wonderful lake with cafes and bars around the edge. We had a lovely stroll from the centre to the hotel, stopping on the way for a beer in the twilight at a small lakeside bar. There were quite a lot of people around doing the same in the twilight. Be aware that push bikes travel at speed on the... More
