This has to be one of my favourite places to explore in Hamburg. Put some comfortable walking shoes on and take a meander. Its history is fascinating and the sheer size of the red-brick warehouses is impressive. To get an insight into just how important this district was (and still is) to trade in Europe, visit the "Speicherstadt Museum" nearby.

It is not very large, but has been very nicely restored after the World War and there is also a very good tea shop called Wasserschloss on the end near Chile House.

Hopefully will be added to the UNESCO list this year. Beatiful area, easy to get there, easy to stroll around. A must-see in Hamburg!

The Speicherstadt has a lot to offer. The old architectural buildings give the city it's timeless charm and warmth. The Speicherstadt Museum is also very informative and gives history on products, space, and daily trading back in the day and gives a perfect visual understanding of the importance of the district. You can walk along the old Speicherstadt and get... More

Charming walk along the canals, the buildings have been beautifully restored and sympathetically developed. Early days so no sense of saturation, plenty of room to stroll and admire the view. When fully occupied, the apartment buildings could lack space for green areas between them. Possible feeling of emptiness at night?

It has been there since Chancellor Bismarck 's time and it is another landmark. Rows of warehouses where duty free goods were kept for distribution at which point, duty had to be paid of course. The dark red burnt bricks have weathered and withstood 2 world wars, countless floods and wind and weather. Many of the warehouses are being converted... More

This is a nice district. Warehouses have a vintage look, but they seem new. You might wonder when you see that every warehouse has some sort of crane outside.

I simply loved the Speicherstadt, it's beautiful architecture, it's story and it's eeriness. Great photo options - even on a dull day.

Interesting area and an inspiring urban redevelopment. The new architecture been built here is really worth a trip in itself. Its a nice way to spend a few hours and nice cafes etc.
