Very beautiful old architecture and pleasant walks along the canals. Also not far from the main downtown.

you don' t have to take a boat to see these well restored buildings. You can cross the bridges to get fyour way through it. They have nice restaurants and museums in it. They are at walking distance of the Rathaus, and if you go further you will find the hafencity, with the new architect

If you plan a trip to Hamburg be sure to reserve at least half a day to visit this district. I recommande a harbour boat trip which goes through the warehouse district. Ask when booking your boat trip, it depends on water levels and boat size. Has been declared UNESCO world heritage on July, 5. 2015.

If you like to walk down to the city from the Reeperbahn it is possible to pass this area and there are some nice eating and coffeeplaces on a bridge over the water where its nice to relax a bit.

Just take a stroll day or night, probably a completely different perspective if you visit with a small boat

This is a an interesting area to walk through but ideally you should have a guide to explain the history. Walk through to the coffee warehouses and Persian carpet warehouses. The architecture old and new is interesting all round.
