Just went through on a Saturday afternoon - amazing atmosphere leading to the Elbphilharmony - a coffee to go, a stop at the Elbpavillion to get the feeling of great acoustic - and on to the newly renovated start of the Landungsbrücken... Great if you are fond of water channels instead of streets...

Once an area of crumbling, war-torn warehouses from Hamburg's days as the leading port in Germany, Speicherstadt (the Warehouse District) has enjoyed a makeover which is fascinating to see. It hums with commercial activity and its location on several canals (feels a bit like Venice) makes it unique and interesting. While it's not apparent to the visitor, these many (more... More

Plenty of European cities have waterfront warehouse/dock areas which no longer serve their original function since containerisation took over international freight and newly built container ports took over. Some of these areas have been converted to attractive tourist areas, but Hamburg's is not one of them. The buildings, partially bombed and subsequently faithfully restored, are quite austere in appearance and... More

Yes, just like other tourists, we also strolled around the district and enjoyed the view. A little boat passing under the bridge and it is one of the spot to take pictures. Hamburg is a walkable city and it is not too big either. You can easily see most of the attraction in a few days.

Beautiful sights while up on the bridges and walkways in the Speicherstadt. Not really much to do around this area besides walk and take in the views but that's all you need! It's incredible to see these warehouses go on for ages and how symmetrical they are across the river. 100% a must do if you are in Hamburg!

We walked around here after seeing the architecture from a city tour bus. It is a must see, with the historical significance and the stunning sights of the warehouse buildings themselves, a very photogenic area of the city.

This place is just close to Miniature World. The place is very unique with stiff old red bricks building around. In the past they say this is the warehouse used to keep the products carried in Hamburg's port.

If you are interested in architecture or urban planning the Speicherstadt is a must see. Old warehouses refurbished and reused for new uses creating an attractive neighbourhood. In London's Docklands by contrast many similar building were lost in the 1970s and 80s due to short term commercial pressures and lack of imagination. Very photogenic especially at night.

A great place to be! You can't go to Hamburg without going to the Speicherstadt. Take a Boatride through the Houses and enjoy being in the center of it all.

Many things to do and see in this area. We covered a lot of ground but one could easily get about by bicycle. Plenty of places to eat and drink
