We went into the church on Saturday and found the choir practicing and it sounded beautiful. We decided to make the trip upstairs (544 steps to the top) and it was well worth the trip, as it affords a fantastic view of the city. Take the time to stop and look at the view on the different platforms, as it... More

Not so special apart being in the vicinity of one of the local hangouts in Hamburg. I saw some people climbing up the tower. It seems free. Did not consider it worth the effort though

St. Petri is not really an ancient building, its present appearance is barely of the nineteenth century. Truly, it bears some old artworks that were saved from the catastrophies of earlier centuries, like lion-head door handles, also some murals and statues of the 15th century. Tourists also venture steep climb to the tower for a city panorama (admission!). However, even... More

St. Petri Kirche is right in the heart of one of the busiest areas in Hamburg, it looks majestic from outside, I took a load of photos of it, nice church!

Over the last 6 months we have visited over 20 cathedrals of varying types and sizes. This one is about average. Its free and OK to wander in and look about. It doesn't have the fascination or spectacle of many of the more popular sites (London, Paris, York, Edinburgh, Seville, Madrid) so for a large city Cathedral it is just... More

Visited to see inside the church on the day before Advent. Place was packed and we were welcomed like honoured guests - given a book of Advent and Christmas Carols and invited to sit and sing with the soloists and choir. A beautiful space after the frenetic Christmas MArket.

The church itself is a beautiful and peaceful place. Unlike other churches in the area it is free to get in to and look around. Most people come here for the climb to the top of the tower - for 3 euros pp. It is well worthwhile despite the very steep climb up the 530-odd steps to the top. Views... More

One of the most beautiful churches I've ever seen. We actually visited this church at 13hrs on a Wednesday which happened to be prayer time which made our experience so much better. It was so peaceful to see everyone during their prayers and all the candles lit up. Also, the singing in German echoed threw the church creating the most... More

This beautiful church is the oldest parish church in the district of Hamburg & although quite small inside is well worth visiting. The sound of the organ is unbelievable it is so good. Art works adorn the walls & there is a warm feeling of welcome from the building itself......well worth popping in & taking a quiet few minutes just... More
