One of the most beautiful churches I've ever seen. We actually visited this church at 13hrs on a Wednesday which happened to be prayer time which made our experience so much better. It was so peaceful to see everyone during their prayers and all the candles lit up. Also, the singing in German echoed threw the church creating the most... More

This beautiful church is the oldest parish church in the district of Hamburg & although quite small inside is well worth visiting. The sound of the organ is unbelievable it is so good. Art works adorn the walls & there is a warm feeling of welcome from the building itself......well worth popping in & taking a quiet few minutes just... More

If you happen to walk around it don’t miss the opportunity to enter and enjoy the interesting oil on oak panel (XV century) representing Christ’s passion attributed to the Hamburg painter Absolon Stumme. It is unfortunately hidden in the small Barbara Chapel while it would deserve a better and more lighted place in the church. You’ll also have the opportunity... More

We happened to walk in just as their afternoon/evening service was beginning. The beautiful organ music, the warm homily in German, the sense of history was very moving.

There are more famous churches in Germany, even in Hamburg. This church is a bit of a prominent yet hidden gem in Hamburg. Its main attraction for the casual tourist is probably the tower climb at the top you are 123m above Hamburg. The views of the Binnenalster and Aussenalster as well as the Rathaus are spectacular. It is somewhat... More

There's much more to the church than the chapel. If physical strength is not an issue, it's worth a trip up. You pay 3 Euro, sign in with your name and number of party before you enter. Upon completion, you the check off your name on the list. I suppose that is a safety feature in case you don't come... More

As St. Nikolai is being renovated, this location is a less-busy alternative for a view across the city. 3 Euros allows you to go all the way to top - BUT - there is no lift and there are a lot of steps! It exhausted me and I like to keep fit! There are places to stop on the way... More

From inside and outside, this a very beautiful church, at the center of the city. There is a possibility to go to the top of the tower, by stairs.

This church with the tallest observation point in Hamburg seems to get overlooked for the (also very good) lookout bombed out Michaeliskirche. Its a long hard slog up the 544 stairs to the top (there is no lift and the stairs get a little narrow at the peak) but for that you get a stunning and dramatic view over the... More
