It is fun to visit the dungeon that showcases the historical moments of Hamburg City (the great fire, the plague epidemic, the pirates hijacking the Hamburg ships etc.)some in a light manner and some in a horrifying, grotesque light. The perfectly synchronised tour begins with your “horrifying”photo session after entry (photos available for purchase at the end of tour ).... More

Speaking some German it was hard for me to understand everything. I was nervous I was going to be called out for crowd participation! If I knew more German it would have been better!

As my title states, tour this attraction in your native language only. I went into this attraction imagining it would be similar to an American Haunted House and I was completely wrong. It is more a series of scenes or rooms as opposed to a full blown walking Haunted House where scares come at every turn. The scenes are pretty... More

Recently took two 12 year old boys to see the Hamburg Dungeon hoping it would keep their interest given it's a 100 minute exhibit. Upon entering we were greeted by Egor, the first of several character actors who presented historical accounts of Hamburg's pirated past and who led us through the many chambers detailing Hamburg's related history. The 10 am... More

I don't think the Hamburg Dungeon is scary at all. Please be aware that they only speak german through the show. There are special shows where they speak english, but that's only at 10 in the morning some days of the week. The price is a bit stiff, but can be defended by the fact that they have real live... I visited Hamburg Dungeon for the first time this past Summer. Had a really great time. However, tours in English are not every day. Even though everyone does speak in German you can still understand the concept of what is going on. Captions are shown in English and overall quite easy to understand especially when it is all in fun... More

We went to the hamburg dungeon, fully expecting it to be like the London dungeon where you just walk around and people jump out etc. We had no idea that it was a different format where people talked to you and it was more like a 'show'. To be fair, they did warn us that it was all in german,... More

We took the English tour, and had no problems understanding what was going on. All the guides/actors spoke perfect English, and the video portions of the tour were dubbed. I was a little worried about people jumping out and grabbing me (yes, I'm a baby that way), but while it was scary, it wasn't too aggressive.. My uncle backed out... More

We opted to have an English tour of the dungeons, since neither myself nor my friend speak German beyond asking for a wine. With only a few exceptions, the staff were absolutely brilliant and spoke English almost perfectly. There were friendly and very eager to interact with us, especially to scare me! Before we began the tour, one of them... More

If you think history is boring you should definitely visit the Hamburg Dungeon! In a group of around 15 people you are being walked through a dark underground labyrinth replaying some parts of Hamburg's history and guided by several very talented actors. On the way you'll find many scary surprises and stories as well as two rides (a short boat... More
