I arrived to Bremen on the first day of Christmas Market and lighting of the "Tannenbaum", so the Marktplatz was very alive, plenty of people enjoying " Weihnachtspunsch" and "Glühwein", but...the stands of the market didn't allow me to enjoy the view of the beautiful buildings that form the square, so...I hold on the legs of the donkey of Bremen's... The Square and surrounding streets are full of very colourful stalls, selling a wide range of seasonal gifts, decorations, hot food and of course 'Gluwein'. The area is surrounded by some majestic buildings, including the Cathedral, Town Hall (Rathaus), and the Guildhall. Allow yourself plenty of time to take it all in !

Great Christmas Market for a city the size of Bremen. Went during the week with some friends, so we didn't find it busy at all. There were just enough people to make it festive with the hustle and bustle of a market, but not too busy where you can't even walk through. Tried the Feuerzangenbowle which was quite tasty. Also... I really love the christmas market located at Marktplatz. There is a unique charm to the christmas market here. It did not give the feeling of being commercial. In fact, it felt magical just by standing in Markplatz looking at the many surrounding beautiful buildings located in Markplatz. This is a must do for any traveller visiting Bremen during in... Absolutely packed with people, all very good natured, lots to drink and eat so you can combine eating out with a market visit. Some of the stuff for sale is 'tat' and overpriced but isn't this inevitable. We've been round the square in the summer too, very historic and well preserved buildings.

We walked from our Dorint Park Hotel to the main Freimarkt area. It was almost impossible to get through the crowds who were pouring out of the rail station. We made our way in and obtained some quick food from an interior stall and squeezed our way back out.

Marketplatz was full of all kinds of stalls during the Oktoberfest - wonderful place at night. Eating, drinking and generally watching the world go past in this beautiful Square.

This marketplace is not for frugal travelers. $4.50 for 10 eggs is a little bit too much... Otherwise the place is wonderful, great choice of locally grown stuff.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed a romantic stroll around the Marktplatz. The Marktplatz boasts a charming and romantic ambience. Here you can admire the breathtaking Bremen Town Hall (Rathaus) with it's unique Weser-Renaissance architecture. This magnificent building has earned it's status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004. It is also home to the magnificent Roland Statue. The... More
