Had a great afternoon walking central Berlin with our guide Phillip. He had studied history in Ireland and clearly had a passion for the subject. The tour didn't feel rushed, always time for questions. Phillip's sense of humour and approachability were highlights for us

Articulate, kind and assertive, Kevin simply embodied, for us, what guiding/teaching is all about. Without a desire to wound or fixate, and with a passion for Berlin and it's history, Kevin walked us around for just the right amount of time and in a gentle way. Kevin painting a lucid and living version of Berlin over epochs while the fascinating... More

This tour really deserves the high reviews. I persuaded my 4 other friends to give this a go and we all thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Jess, our guide, really knew his stuff and delivered the info clearly, whilst keeping very entertaining. For anyone interrailing and needing an excellent base of knowledge of Berlin, this is the one peeps! Big up... More

Took the Third Reich walking tour with Rick in early June and it was great! We felt privileged to have someone who studied history as our guide, as he was really passionate about the topic and knew a lot of tidbits about the sites that I'm pretty sure an ordinary tour guide might not have mentioned. The tour overall was... More

A truly memorable tour. Our guide was Darren a German history phd student. His level of knowledge was amazing as was the detail he went into- particularly with anything associated with the Nazis' or WW2. It wasn't just dry details however, Darren encouraged us to think about many things from a different perspective. We covered a huge amount of ground... More

Our guide was Emily who was very knowledgeable and accommodating considering we were quite a large group, waiting for the 'stragglers', repeating things that people missed and happily answering lots of questions, to the point when she graciously carried on when the tour ran over-time! We took in all the main sights, with little anecdotes at each site, really enjoyed... More

Excellent tour! The tour guide (Jess) was articulate and knowledgeable. However his passion, approach, ideas and interpretations made the tour so much more enjoyable and thought provoking. The tour I took I would gladly and highly recommend!

This was a (very) belated first time visit to Berlin for my wife and myself - my 65 year birthday present from the family. This was an excellent 4 hour walking "overview" tour by Dennis - a native Berliner - who very successfully managed to present an intelligent and knowledgeable overview of the history of his city with his own... My family and I went on the walking tour . Rick was very knowledgeable about this part of Germanys dark past and he brought it to life with this walk by pointing out various landmarks and monuments. He was open to questions from those of us on the tour and left open the door for food for thought. My children... More

Staying in Mitte

Neighborhood Profile
Mitte
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
