Great job, Emily. We really enjoyed the four hour Berlin walk. Even in April it was quite hard going so if you are doing this in June or July take a good supply of water. The walk starts and finishes pretty centrally and takes in some of the "don't miss" sights - including Brandenburg Gate, Holocaust Memorial, Wall and Checkpoint... More

A must for anyone visiting Berlin for the first time. It came highly recommended and fulfilled our expectations. Our guide was Lysanne. She obviously had a wealth of knowledge and a love of the city. Her recommendations of other places to visit were excellent too. So glad we started our time in Berlin with this walk.

Very good experience. Taken out to a non tourist area of Berlin near Temple Hof Airport (which is fantastic site to see). Food was excellent, its a great idea to go to 3 different places for starter, main then dessert got to see some different styles and takes on modern German cooking. Our guild was Phillipa she has a great... More

We wanted to learn more about Berlin's history - the good and the bad - and Caroline our guide was wonderful at leading us through its past, explaining how Berlin came to be the cultural capital of Europe and how it all went horribly wrong. She also gave us wonderful insights into life in Berlin during the Cold War and... More

We did the Urban Berlin walking tour with Caroline and we thoroughly enjoyed it. As a guide, she was intelligent, detailed and reflective. If we could ever afford a private guide, we would pick someone exactly like her. The tour was a great break from our other days in the city that focussed on the Holocaust & The Wall. We... More

Dennis was our guide and he was absolutely brilliant! He gave me and my husband and the rest of the group the best history lesson we have ever had. He not only gave us the story from world war I to world war II - he did it in a exciting way with great enthusiasm, knowledge and tremendous storytelling. Don't... More

A friend recommended for us to go on a walking tour with Original Berlin Walks and I am so glad that we followed their advice because it was totally brilliant. We went on the Discover Berlin walk and it was fascinating and informative. Our guide, Emily, was superb and with a vast knowledge of Berlin she definitely made our stay... More

Staying in Mitte

Neighborhood Profile
Mitte
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
