This place was easy to get to and possibly the best exhibit in Germany to depict what happened in the Holocaust. Although it did have its fare share of misery the amoutn of information you can gain from it was wonderful...all exhibits are finely set out and it is well kept to say it is free to get in. We... more

Whilst I wouldn't call this an enjoyable day, it was certainly a memorable one. We booked a walking tour and it was well worth the money. Our guide, Joe, (although very young!) was extremely informative and told us loads that we wouldn't have learned from the exhibits only. As other reviewers have mentioned, to get to Sachsenhausen, you have to... more

If you want to experience a small insight into how attrocious WW2 was, then visit Sachsenhausen. So many people died here at the hands of monsters it makes you question how any human being could have done such things to others. Very humbling and sombering experience. I am in my mid forties yet I would say that we should never... more

I spent a chilling January day at Sachsenhausen and, while it does not have the painful enormity of Buchenwald or Auschwitz, Sachsenhausen certainly ranks near the most in tact and important camps to visit. Many structures have been rebuilt, and all house very well done exhibits regarding the camp and its unfortunate inhabitants. The one horrifying image that has always... more

The journey to KZ Sachsenhausen from Berlin is very easy - I wouldn't take an organised tour as making your own way there is so easy - get the S1 train from Berlin to Oranienburg (last station on the S1 line), and then follow the signs to walk to the camp. It’s about a 15-20 minute walk from the train... more

First of all dont pay for a walking tour of the concentration camp they cost 15 euros each plus your train fare. Do the trip yourself which involves travelling to Oranienburg train station and following the signs to the camp. Buy a 2 euro audio tour and gain much more information. Most descriptions make it sound really difficult to find... more

If you haven't visited a concentration camp before, tour this one. While initially, it wasn't meant to be concentration camp, it ended up being one, destroying hundreds of thousands of lives. You'll be touched by the atrocities that were committed by the Germans, and later, the Soviets on this ground. Take the S-Bahn 1 to Orienburg. The trip from end-to-end... more

I was recently in Berlin and after a couple weeks of travel decided to leave behind the crowds of the big city for a bit. The employees at my hostel suggested I head out to Oranienburg for the day and visit the memorial. The whole trip is free (if you have a rail pass) and well worth it as a... more

I've been there in April 2005. A big sun and no clouds in the sky... but a terrible cold wind. Despite my big coat, I was cold and shivering. It is increadible how people managed to survive. Although I had read books and watched movies, one has to come and see by itself. more

Well okay that is a okay museum, but personally I don't think the long way (about 2,5 h) was it all worth. I think that Sachsenhausen wasn't fully authentic. Many buildings was turned into a museum and there was a lot of hutments which was torn down. PROS: - Okay informative museum - Free entrence - Good information about how... more
