Explore Berlin is tourism at its best. Jessica Cartwright is one of the most sought after guides in the city - not only because of her in depth knowledge of past and present Berlin but also for the phenomenal way in which she conveys its history with spirit, suspense and compassion. To fully appreciate the Berlin of today, Jessica navigates you through the many layers of its diverse past. From its swampy origins to the rise of the Prussian army, through Hitler’s megalomaniacal vision for a new world capital to the communist totalitarian regime that led to division and the construction of the Berlin wall.Come and experience Berlin through her stories of the city and its people as they stood at the gates of history with her “multimedia” props and passionate recounting of some of history’s most pivotal moments.

My wife, 23-year-old son and I toured Berlin with Jessica for one full day In mid July. This was by far the highlight of our two-week trip to Europe. None of us expected Berlin to be the favorite part of our trip, but because of Jessica, it was. She loves her city. With her, you will see the important monuments... More

I booked Jessica's tour for 7 of my girlfriends and I traveling together. She was incredible. First off, we were about 45 minutes late and she was very patient with helping us get to her. During the tour she made the history of Berlin come alive - Jessica took us to all of the "important" spots but also some lesser... More

My wife and I did a 3-hour walking tour with Jessica in nearly 100-degree heat on July 5th. She did a terrific job in telling us about the city's history and the key sights. We liked her enthusiasm and lively personality, and her English was excellent so we could understand everything she explained. We did not want an indepth, detailed... More

Our Berlin experience was top notch thanks to the enthusiasm and knowledge of our guide Jessica in May 2015. She made the history come alive with her descriptions of key monuments and neighborhoods. Her insights to the culture enriched our understanding of the people of Berlin. She pointed us to shopping, restaurants, parks and many buildings that were not in... More

I enjoyed the cold war tour with Jessica a lot. It's my second time to Berlin, but this time the experience is very different. I get to learn a lot more about the past of this vibrant city. Thanks to Jessica who provides very informative and details about what had happened in Berlin. She spices up the history with some... More

This was my second time touring Berlin with Jessica. The first time was with students and now it was with adults. She is so passionate, knowledgeable and flexible. She met us at the train station, took us to our hostel and gave us restaurant tips. When the tour was over, she made sure that we knew how to get to... More

If you are even thinking of traveling to Berlin one day, BOOK HER IMMEDIATELY. Jessica Cartwright was the most intelligent and wonderful tour guide I have ever had. Trilingual, she has also lived in Sweden and NYC, leading us through the city of Berlin with enthusiasm and gusto. I can see why she has such passion for the city. She... More

Staying in Mitte

Neighborhood Profile
Mitte
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
