Explore Berlin is tourism at its best. Jessica Cartwright is one of the most sought after guides in the city - not only because of her in depth knowledge of past and present Berlin but also for the phenomenal way in which she conveys its history with spirit, suspense and compassion. To fully appreciate the Berlin of today, Jessica navigates you through the many layers of its diverse past. From its swampy origins to the rise of the Prussian army, through Hitler’s megalomaniacal vision for a new world capital to the communist totalitarian regime that led to division and the construction of the Berlin wall.Come and experience Berlin through her stories of the city and its people as they stood at the gates of history with her “multimedia” props and passionate recounting of some of history’s most pivotal moments.

I are deeply grateful for Jessica's availability when we arrived in Berlin and how well she organized and conducted our tour of Berlin. It was indeed a pleasure and an honor to spend two days with Jessica. She structured our tour according to our interests and accommodated my husband's need to walk slowly with a walking stick. In two days... More

If you want to experience a comprehensive, interesting, fun and exciting day in Berlin, make sure you book a tour with Jessica. From the very first email I sent to Jessica to inquire about the tour, she was enthusiastic and helpful. We had a wonderful day touring with Jessica with just the right mix of history, anecdotes, and tips for... More

Fantastic tour with a very knowledgeable and friendly guide. Jessica had the hard task of showing us Berlin while avoiding too much reference to WWII and she managed admirably with a fun and informative walking tour. Thoroughly recommended. S M Stuart (author: Two of a Mind)

Jessica Cartwright was the perfect person for our tour! We could not have asked for a more caring person for our needs, more knowledgable about our tour and more delightful to be with for the day. Jessica exceeded our expectations for a guide for our visit to Sachenhausen and downtown Berlin. We would highly recommend her to anyone coming to... More

My wife and I were in Berlin to delve into Cold War history of Berlin. Jessica didn't only guide us to the obvious tourist places but she took us to places that were interesting but slightly off the beaten path. We appreciated that she first sat down with us to find out what exactly we wanted to gain from our... More

Our family (12 altogether) spent a week in Berlin, and started it out with a 4 hour city tour guided by Jessica. We've travelled widely and I'm not exaggerating when I say that Jessica was one of the best, if not THE best tour guide we've ever had. She loves Berlin, is fascinated by it, and it shows. She had... We also only had a short time in Berlin and organised Jess to take us to Succenhaussen (concentration camp), just outside Berlin. Not only was Jess on time and organised, she had pre purchased our train ticket to save time and had brochures for us. We talked all the way on the train, Jess' wealth of knowledge is fantastic. It... More

Because I have been lucky enough to travel a great deal of the world I don't often feel the need to use a tour guide. In fact most times I have it's been less than an extraordinary experience. In 2013 I visited Berlin and upon the recommendation of a friend decided to use one for this visit. The person recommended... More

Staying in Prenzlauer Berg

Neighborhood Profile
Prenzlauer Berg
No Berlin neighborhood has undergone a greater change than Prenzlauer Berg. The artists and non-conformists that defined the district’s intriguing subculture in the 1980s and 90s have been replaced by a young, hip crowd that frequents the many cafes. Where there were once run-down houses in the shadow of the Berlin Wall, there are now designer shops. Beautiful old homes have been modernized and renovated, and on Sundays, thousands turn the park next to remnants of the wall into a playground for street artists, musicians, and flea market shoppers. This attracts young urban families who enjoy the balance of big city life and small-town comfort. Meanwhile, trendy, young, upper-class visitors from all over the world are attracted to the local high-end shops, cafés, and sophisticated bars and restaurants. The merits of this transformation are a favorite topic of debate around the city, but it makes for some of the best people-watching Berlin has to offer.
