Yoav & Natalie are the ultimate tour guides who provide a magnificent, insightful and scholarly perspective on Jewish Berlin. They don’t come better than this. We toured with each of them for 3 or more hours on 3 consecutive days and would have loved to have done more; they were so excellent. The sites they took us to were overwhelming,... More

Yoav is very knowledgeable and gives a great tour! He helps to relate the history of the Jews in Berlin and Germany and what happened during the Nazi period. More than willing to meet our time constraints balanced with a desire to see as much as possible. We highly recommend him.

From previous reviews I knew we were in for a great tour, however I did not realize the insights Yoav would bring to the tour. Each memorial visited he explained what the artist was portraying, why he chose to portray what he did and his connection to the holocaust. We learned how different the holocaust was in Germany than in... More

We had just 6 hours in Berlin ..a microsecond when one considers the history and a landmarks that are packed into this amazing city. Yoav provided such an abundance of information, from many presectives, which were thought provoking for all of us and provoked much discussion among family members. Yoav's description of the German Jewish community was illuminating and has... More

Our trip to Germany revolved around visiting ancestral areas in the Rhineland, and a two day escorted tour of Berlin with a heavy slant on Jewish history. Yoav was contacted, via e-mail and we developed a plan and date for our visit in early May 2015. My wife and I were truly anticipating our visit, and arrived a day early... More

I took two weeks ago my third Jewish Berlin tour with Natalie and Yoav in 3 years. I started out knowing not much about Jewish life in pre-war Berlin and ended getting answers and – more importantly – significant stimulation to ask questions and find my own answers. Among others I wrote an essay “The typical German of the holocaust".... More

Last week I was in Berlin for the first time in 30 years and booked a tour with Yoav Sapir Private Tours to see the Jewish Quarter of East Berlin with Natalie. Natalie arrive at my hotel on time and ready to show me whatever I wanted to see. I let her plot our course and for the next 4... More

Natalie was our guide for a four hour tour which included both the mainstream and less well known memorials and historical sites. She has an academic back round which enhances her thorough explanations and was easily able and willing to digress and discuss all manner of questions about modern and ancient history and culture. She was punctual, pleasant and had... More

We planned all of this online via email. Yoav was already booked for the date we were arriving in Berlin, so Natalie (his wife) took over expertly! We were a party of four, and Natalie arranged for a car to meet us in Rostock. Thomas, our driver for the day, was amazing. He gave us little tidbits of information on... More

Staying in Schoneberg

Neighborhood Profile
Schoneberg
In 1963, Schöneberg was the center of the political west, inspiring John F. Kennedy to choose this area to famously announce, "Ich bin ein Berliner." Times may have changed, but modern-day Schöneberg still pays tribute to its historical legacies. Once the richest city outside of Berlin proper, the area's affluent past is still visible in ornate housing facades dating back to the Gründerzeit of the 19th century, while residents in fur coats walking their dogs or shopping in high-end KaDeWe continue the tradition with a modern flair. Schöneberg was also once the center of the decadent and burlesque nightlife of the 1920s. It was here that Marlene Dietrich partied with Christopher Isherwood and the first gay bar in Germany was founded. Today, the gay community still revolves around Nollendorfplatz. The overground Ubahn station is even illuminated in rainbow colors, paying tribute to Schöneberg's progressive past.
