Really a good tour - excellent guide. This 80+ participant had to hoof it pretty fast to keep up with the young folks who prevailed, but it was do-able, informative, and altogether a fine experience in a great city! A well-earned tip is expected at the end of the tour, and we were more than happy to reward our fine... More

If it's free can you expect anything? Believe me: it was amazing! Our guide Sam told us so much about the history of Berlin, about Germany, about the war, about the historical and the new buildings, about politics in the past and the present. He showed us the most interesting sites, the most beautiful sites. We couldn't imagine a better... More

Our tour guide was Mark. He was informative and passionate about what he was sharing with us. He's done his homework and is definitely knowledgeable. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour and highly recommend it!! It was better than a Visit a History Tour

I did the free walking tour with Theo. He loves Berlin and his joy shines through his entire tour. He is knowledgable, theatrical and thoughtful, a perfect combination of humor and wisdom.

We went to Berlin by car and walked around the streets there. We saw Brandeburg Gate, Femsehtum Berlin (just the outside), Alexanderplatz, Pariser Platz and so on. No tour tickets, just free enjoyable walking around the streets of Berlin. The people from Berlin are very friendly and helpful. Just driving around Berlin looking for car parking spots is troublesome and... More

I can't believe this is covered completely by tips. Theo, our guide, was fantastic telling us all about the history of what we saw but also very knowledgable about the city, places to eat, etc. that are not on the tour. Theo showed us many areas of the city that I probably would have missed out on but should be... More

Staying in Mitte

Neighborhood Profile
Mitte
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
