Since I Iast toured the inside (1991) much has been further rennovated. One feels as if one is with the Kaiser visiting the main church, and one can sit where he did and view the magnficence of the alter and the paintings and sculptures. One has a stupendous view of the city from the top, and the solemn historic walk... More

To say that it was only finished in 1905 it is a great masterpiece. We took the time to climb to the gallery at the top and saw the amazing views across Berlin. Fantastic

One of the most beautiful Cathedrals in Northern Europe, impressive acoustics with room for many hours of quiet time. It is still used for mass and weddings so yo may not alwas be able to get in.

Well worth a visit for the splendour of the interior. You can walk up to 2 viewing areas (approx 170 steps to top) which gives a great view and there is a crypt of the Prussian royalty, which is approx 80 sarcophagi.

Not sure what the architect had in mind when he decided to leave the old church in ruins, but it sure invokes strong emotions now. Even the house of the god was not spared, victim of the feuds between his own followers.

It's worth seeing. Make sure to stop by before you plan to go and double-check that it will be open. They close randomly and don't post signs or anything.

The view from the top is well worth the effort walking up. The beauty of the cathedral itself was amazing

We had the Berlin Welcome Card so we got discounts on the entrance tickets. It's very beautiful inside, but what I really liked is that you could walk up the very very very very top of the dome. The view up there is really cool.

Staying in Mitte

Neighborhood Profile
Mitte
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
