We spent Christmas in Germany so that we could experience all the wonderful decorations and ornaments. We were impressed by the museum's displays and spent WAY more than we planned in the gift shop. Luckily they ship and you can get your VAT tax refunded if you ship back to the US. Worth a visit.

An interesting place to visit any time, but especially nice near Christmas. I expected from its name to be a museum about Christmas, but the focus is interestingly on how Christmas decorations developed from the early Christian era and I learnt some new things, such as that apples used to be put on trees to remember Adam & Eve and... This very thoughtfully developed presentation is primarily concerned with the evolution of Christmas trees and their decorations, a very big thing in the country that originated the Weihnachtsbaum. I discovered that some ornaments left to me by my mother are veritable museum pieces. Definitely worth a visit if this Christmas tradition gives you joy.

The christmas museum is located in the large Kathe Wolfhart shop by the square. This costs a few euro to get in to see the museum. It was quiet when we went, so we could read all the boards, but photography is not allowed. I wish it had been…or if they had sold a book about the museum so I... More

Wonderfully decorated Christmas store, with a multitude of rooms decked out with trees, lights and ornaments. Undoubtedly commercial, but visit and you won't help but feel festive - even in March!

I loved this place much more than I expected. It offers an interesting history of Christmas in Germany. The shop is just insanely over the top christmassy. You just can't leave without buying a tree decoration - and they are exceptionally made.

Whilst the displays of Christmas ornaments are stunning the museum did have a feel of commercialism about it

It's a big house (more than one floor) and full of Xmas related stuff and some "classic" in this region, such as Cuckoo clocks, nutcrackers and the incense smokers. For most kids they will have a "Wow" when they dome here. It feels like all fairy tales display in one go. :-)

I was so lucky my daughter Debby's friends recommended Rothenburg ob de Tauber , and the German Christmas Museum in the middle of Kathe Wohlfahrts Christmas Store in the very heart of Magical Rothenburg is not to be missed by lovers of Xmas . It took me back to my childhood in the 40 s before Xmas became just a... More

We were expecting a "come on" in the middle of Kathe Wohlfahrt's huge Christmas store, but we were pleasantly surprised to find it non-commercial, well curated, and educational. We have a new appreciation of Christmas decorations for having visited.
