If you love Christmas, then you will likely enjoy this museum. If you think Christmas is just alright, then I would say skip this museum and just enjoy the shop. The shop in itself has a lot of displays, but the museum actually explains some of the history. The signs in the museum are in German and English. The museum... More

It gives you an idea on how Christmas was celebrated over the centuries - highly recommended and worth doing.

Unless you are into the celebration of Chistmas, you can give this museum a miss and just visit its Christmas store (which is tastefully and beautifully designed and decorated).

The museum is interesting, but the real highlight was the store! There is so much merchandise, and not what you can find normally in stores. The staff is very helpful! They also have higher end German merchandise, not all Christmas decor.

We had see a few shops along the way and bought a couple of Christmas decorations but should have waited til we got to this shop. We didn't go to the museum( actually didn't even see it) the shop was so big just when you thought you'd reached the end, it gets bigger. We did go overboard on deco's but... More

The German Christmas Museum is attached to Kathe Wohlfarht’s main Christmas Shop in Rothenburg ob d Tauber. My husband and I both enjoyed our visit, as the museum explains the evolution of the celebration of Christmas, especially of the Christmas tree and its ornaments. It has several trees decorated with beautiful handmade decorations dating back 100 years or more. Also... More

I spent around 1 hour in this museum during my visit to Rothenburg. I really enjoyed its various displays that showed many interesting historic Christmas items. There were also detailed explanations (in English) for each display. For example, there was a section dedicated to the wooden Christmas pyramids (which you will see in Germany), Christmas trees, Christmas cards, advent calendars,... More

A bit disappointing considering it costs 4 euro to get in. It's nice, but so small. The store itself is probably more interesting.

Just forget about the museum - there is a huge Christmas store at the end of it, probably bigger than a Wal Mart or Tesco! Children, youngers, olders, no matter the age will get emotionally envolved with thousands of special gifts for Christmas trees, walls, etc. Time goes by very quickly and if were not for me my wife would...
