Rothenburg is a classic old German town totally dedicated to the Christmas tradition. We walked around the walled town which was very lovely and then into the many Christmas shops for ornaments. A great town for shopping.

When you come into Rothenberg, it appears little has changed since the Middle Ages. The city wall still surrounds the churches and rows of gabled houses. It is a town relying on tourists and we loved it! The streets are filled with German crafts, lace and souvenirs. I went from a store on one side of the street and over...

There is plenty here to give you an insight into what life was like living here through medieval times, particularly the Medieval Crime Museum and the Night Watchman Tour. However there are plenty of places to avoid here too such as the Christmas Museum ( just check out the shop instead). There are many tourists here and also seemed particularly...

This was our second trip to Rothenburg - both times in the rain, but it simply doesn't matter as this town absolutely captivates me. It can be overcrowded during the day with day-trippers, but after 4:00 they seem to all leave and you can have the place to yourself. I really recommend that you stay at least one night so...

this would be it. All authentic, and historical. The walls and the moat are there, you can imagine how it was defended in it's day. Great shopping, if you want something. Terrific bakeries. Yum. Don't wait for lunch, restaurants close in the afternoon to get ready for dinner. They will give you a beer, but not food.
The old city is very interesting, with old homes, beautiful sightsee, local arts and I dislike that the restaurants use to close early( 21:00pm).
This was our last stop in Germany as our daughter had read about Rothenburg being a Christmas Village. There is no parking inside the middle section of town. The few vehicles that come through might drop off baggage and then head to your hotel's parking area or return outside the city. We woke early to explore the town and not...

...that's still in tact centuries later. It's a good hidden gem of Germany and worth it to come for at least a day to enjoy. The buildings and architecture are amazing and it's got a ton of small shops. Be sure to have euro for shopping, there's not really any place to exchange money here either so be prepared. Take...

The whole town is just great really nice and full of alleys and cute buildings. You can shop for every souvenir you can think of. We were there on late april so it was quite peaceful. Most tourist make it a day trip from elsewhere so at night it was silent and almost just for us which we loved.
I loved this place so much, I visited twice including an overnight stay. If you go, don't miss the Night Watchman tour!
