We had only 5 days in Munich for a group of ten and yes, this is on top on our list, giving up Nuremburg. It's good enough for a day trip from Munich and the kids love it, taking in the sights and climbing and walking around the walls. Allocate enough time from the train station to the town and... More

It was like stepping back into time. Highly recommend the Night Watchman Tour that meets at the city hall (Rathaus) square at 8pm. Pay after the tour.

Rothenburg Ob Der Tauber is one of my favorite little towns. The walled city transforms the atmosphere to decades back during medieval times. The old town square had a giant Christmas tree in the middle of the Christmas Market. Christmas scents met us as we arrived. Very nice place and largely hovering over the square is the Rathaus (city hall),... More

If you look for romantic/beautiful cities in Germany go for Regensburg, Bamberg, Passau, Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Dinkelbuhl, Augsburg, Heidelberg, Erfurt and Lindau. Dresden is getting there. Parts of Freiburg and Wurzburg as well.

My college professor, years ago, told me about this little gem in Germany and he still has paintings and photos of the town in his house. I finally made it this last December, after a heavy snow-storm the day before. The town was just beautiful and charming; the snow-covered ground didn't diminish its beauty. Talk about frozen in time and... More

Definitely worth the cold night to get to know the old town. A true performer who knew how to bring the old town alive.

It's very clean and prettily painted and kept up, as you would expect from the Germans. Stop over in the French side - the Alsace and it's shabby and antiquated. It made us appreciate the fresh face of Rothenburg. Not much actual shopping to be had for so many stores. It's quaint, but does not need more than 2 days... More

We loved exploring the old town in all its Pre-Christmas Splendor. Was looking for the authentic experience but only heard English and American Christmas Carols sung by the children's choir... hence the four stars instead of 5
