You can shop, walk around and enjoy the old buildings (many are pre-WWII, and you can hardly tell yourself which ones aren't), enjoy the garden right outside one of the gates, and even do a bit of hiking if you leave the old town and the walls. There are tours of the area (I recommend the Nigh Watchman's tour) and... More

Lots of tour groups during the day but town empties out in the evening. Great place to explore the walls, look at scenery, enjoy the cuisine.

Rothenburg should not be missed. For all Europe loving travelers this is one town that lives up to expectations. So historical that the town itself is a monument. Beautiful architecture all around the city. Very attractive old shops with medieval facades. I loved walking around the city, with all if it's nooks and crannies. Super romantic as well. Three days... More

Don't miss the Night Watchmen tour at 20:00 p.m. every night. He tells interesting stories with medieval cloths. For 20 years it was same man :-) Wonderful medieval city I have ever seen. Like a story. At evening the city is calm and silent. Please make your shopping already.

We've visited Rothenburg o.d.T. twice and know we will return. This is absolutely the ideal city to just meander around to see where your feet take you. Sure, if this is your first visit, you might want to bring an agenda with a few things to do - things you don't want to miss, but beyond that, be sure to... More

Loved, loved, loved it! One of the highlights of our trip to Germany. Take the Night Watchman's Tour, and just spend the day walking around the historic old town

In all the world this is truly an amazing place. It is not a recreated village it is the real thing from hundreds of years ago as it was then even down to the town crier. Simply wonderful.

The town is amazing with shops galore! We loved meandering through the streets, photographing the historical buildings and stopping on the sidewalk cafés for snacks, lunch, wine, etc. It was our favorite stop on a 2 week, 6 city tour!

We walked around the old town a lot, including getting off the main roads and into some smaller non-touristy areas. It's incredibly warm and charming. The people were all very friendly and we thought the old town was very clean and well maintained. It's clear that the town values its history and works to preserve it for all to enjoy.
