Partially bombed during WWII, this walled city is probably the best preserved and restored example in Germany. As Rick Steves says, don't settle for second best, this is it!!

It's really gorgeous walking around Rothenburg. Each lane has it's own charm and even though it can be busy during the day, the crowds never were too much. At night, it is very quiet.

While this is an old Medieval town with old 1400 era buildings and before with a surrounding wall that is perfectly fascinating in its own right, what struck us in walking the back streets inside the wall is that it is still a functioning city with residential areas, cars, and neighborhoods. It may be preserved, but it is not Disneyland.... More

Besides being such a nice medieval town, it is amazing to see that the shops are not taken by cheap souvenir made in China. Instead they offer authentic German producs that add to the uniqueness of the place. If you get off the two main streets you will avoid the crowd.

A beautiful little town, untouched by the passage of time, felt like you are living in the middle ages. Remember to visit the Christmas shop. Probably even more beautiful in winter.

It's adorable--what else is there to say? It feels strange that people live and work in these old buildings, but they do. We did the Night Watchman's Tour and were a little underwhelmed. I guess it didn't help that it was pouring rain, but still, I guess we expected a little more.

All the reviews and description of Rothenburg oTD being a picture perfect postcard town is spot on. It is one of the loveliest old towns I have ever visited. Every building is worthy of a photograph. I did the 90 min walking tour that met at 11am and 2pm and I highly recommend this as a great way of getting... More

We love to travel and find that we prefer the smaller villages as opposed to large cities. Rothenburg is certainly a place you should mark on your list! Great history, quaint, cute & we loved it!

We loved visiting this charming and historic place. If you go, be sure to take the Night Watchman tour--it was wonderful!
