This has to be one of the most incredible European medieval towns, untouched by recent wars and beautifully restored. You won't find a Starbucks or McDonalds here, and that's a good thing! Just a beautiful, quaint town, brightly coloured buildings side by side, all wrapped up inside the huge stone wall that surrounds the entire town. The popular local treat... More

Rothenburg is the definition of a German medieval town. The intact wall surrounding the town, the charming buildings and the wonderful restaurants and shopping makes this a must-see location. Best to stay overnight as the town is less crowded and the Night Watchman's tour is worth it. A little bit of everything for everyone within an easily walkable town. We... More

This little town is wonderful to walk through and enjoy the beautiful architecture. You have to take the Night watchman's tour if possible. There is an hour tour every night at 8:00 in English. Great history of the town from this man. Informative and entertaining. While in Rothenburg you have to try one of the famous schneeaballen. Its like pie... More

We came here 20 years ago in summer and vowed one day we'd come back around Christmastime. We made it, about 10 days before Christmas with our 3 teenagers and they loved it as much as us. The place is intriguing to explore by day and magical by night with the Christmas trees/lighting - very tastefully done as the Germans... More

History exudes from every corner - my last visit was during December with the Christmas Market in full swing - adding local splendor to an otherwise dull season. The various stalls, Gluehwein in white, rose and red variations and the nicely decorated buildings made this a winning combination. Very well worth a visit at any time, but besides the clement... This was our 3rd visit to Rothenburg and we enjoyed it even though it is early January. This town has such beautiful architecture that it is a pleasure to walk around. It is better to come at the warmer time of the year, early September was perfect the first time we came. Otherwise you have to dress for the cold... More

Walled town the looks like Christmas year round. During the Christmas Market season it's Christmas in over drive. Parking outside of town can be a challenge. Lot #3 was a good option we had tried #1 and #5 which were full.

Beautiful medieval town in a very good state for preservation. Because of that and because it is so well known all over the world, it is also very touristy. But you can live with it and it is especially nice and romantc after dark, after all the day trippers have left.

If you're close to Rothenburg I would definitely recommend this town. It has been very nicely preserved and will serve as a good day trip.

Very quaint and one of the few that is very well preserved. Easy to navigate and you'd spend hours just browsing at all the shops selling little trinkets. Rothernburg probably has one of the best window dressings in Europe!
