We have been at christmas markets in Nuremberg, Munich, Strasbourg, and Paris, but our favorite has been Nuremberg (with Strasbourg being a close #2, Munich #3, and Paris a distant #4). The Christmas season (Advent) is one of the truly wonderful times to be in Germany. Christmas Markets are found in hundreds of cities, towns, and villages. Munich has over 80 markets ranging from the "Kripperlmarkt" in "Marienplatz," the Tollwood Market, and smaller, neighborhood affairs. I loved the Christkindlesmarkt. The atmosphere is festive, the food is delicious, and the gluhwein will keep you warm. Many vendors are selling toys and decorations that are made in Germany, so it's a good spot for souvenir shopping. more
