I would only recommend this museum if you are German speaking. Although an English audio guide can be rented, the actual locations for the audio guide are very limited. A vast amount of information is entirely in German and of no value for those visitors who are not fluent in the German language. It is absolutely baffling to me that... More

Having been to a number of railway museums in Northern Europe I have to be honest and say that this is not the best for looking at actual trains. There is only a few (well maintained) trains on the ground floor (for obvious reasons). The other floors focus on the history of DB and the DDR equivalent. Hats off to... More

Great museum more then just trains. German history of communication too. Lots to see, doesn't take long to get through but for 5 Euro great value.

This is one of three sites for the DB museum, the others are at Koblenz and Halle where most of the large exhibits are. This site has a few locomotives and coaches but concentrates more on the social history side of railways. I am the rail enthusiast but my wife (with little German) found it fascinating too. There are many... More

Excellent layout with lots of information and displays. My husband is the real enthusiast but I have to say that it captured my interest too - fantastic model railway layout and amazing technology in the function of it.

A minor collection with a very good interpretive display. In German. The Bayern royal carriages and the replica Adler are worth seeing.

Overall a good museum to visit, very interesting and informative. However, as an English speaking guest we were a little dismayed. We did rent the English audio headsets but we found a lot of German information boards with no English translation available. It seemed that every 10 - 15 German information boards were covered with one English translation through your... More

One would expect DB with its wonderful rail system to have an equally wonderful railway museum. It doesn't. This place may have been adequate when it was originally built but nowadays it really is a poor relation of its British , French and Japanese equivalents in York, Mulhouse and Kyoto. The major exhibits are displayed in a very cramped way.... More

I was rather disappointed by this museum. Although it is the official museum of the official German carrier it seemed very low key. I had visited the French equivalent in Mulhouse a few days before and that was far superior. There seemed a lack of "spark" about the whole place, with the few engines on display crammed into too little... More
