The ships are splendid; we took the 11am I hour tour Starnberg to Starnberg and enjoyed every minute. Plenty of seating and perfect Hofbrau on draft together with stunning scenery made this a trip we will never forget. The price is very reasonable and combined with a 10% discount for using the S Bahn on a day ticket affordable for... More

I have taken the Munich S-Bahn to Starnberger See several times. It is so easy to get to, and the train is right near the lake, so you don't have far to walk. I have both rented paddle boats and electric boats while here. I have also taken the boat tour of the lake, where you can hear the history... More

It's about a 35- 40 minute run from the city centre on S6 train to Starnberg and then Tutzing at the end of the line. Starnberg is quite a neat little town. We were there in a very grey, dull December day, but it's obvious that in bright weather it's a nice place to be, and views of the Alps... More

I had one of my favourite days out ever here. Spent the whole Sunday relaxing by the lake. Easy to get to from centre of Munich. Well worth a visit!

We went to this lovely area on the outskirts of Munich. It is the place where the "tragic" King Ludwig died (or was murdered). The lake is very lovely and the area all around it is filled with benches, places to eat (vendors) and just a lovely respite from the city. Saw lots of city dwellers go here to escape... More

It is really pretty, with many opportunities for sports, swimming, having a pic nic etc! A nice place to visit if you have enough time to escape a bit from he city center. Easily reachable by the S-bahn.

Best do it in the Summer though, as boat tours do not run in the Fall...so you can;t visit the spot where the cross is..where Ludwig II (sopposedly) drowned.. A visit to the local museum (by the train station is worth it. The have replicas of the ships used by the royals. And they have a real one as well-... More

Was in Munich for the weekend and decided to go to the end of the S Bahn. On my way back I got off at Starnberg. The station is on the lakeside and it really is lovely - I fully understand why people come here.
