Located in the very south part of Munich, this sea is surrounded by luxurious houses and very nice hotels. You can reach it with the S bahn directly from the city. I recommend going there either for the day or even to stay a few days there and relax away from the city life.

Starnbergersee is a short distance from Munich. Here you can take a very short ferry ride to the Rose Island where the Empress Elizabeth of Austria and King Ludwig II used to meet (they were great friends - probably nothing more) The small villa is beautifully situated and well worth a visit - it won't take long. There are some... More

The lake is really nice, in good weather condition you can see the snow on the tops of the hills. There are a lot of nice villages around the lake so it is really a sense to make a ship trip or car tour or bicycle tour. My favourite ones are Starnberg, Berg, Possenhofen, Seeshaupt but all of them are... More

Beautiful surroundings and quiet town centre. We took the train from Munich - easy and cheapish - spent a lovely afternoon wandering around the loch and town.

Didn't have much time here but it is well worth visiting. The train from the centre of Munich doesn't take much more than half an hour and when you alight you are at the end of the lake with (if the weather is kind) the spectacular Alps in the distance. We visited early April on a warm sunny day and... More

A lovely blue lake with fabulous views of the mountains in the distance. You can walk along the lakeside and there are occasional restaurants and villages along the way. If you're a waterskier, there is a ski club at Possenhofen and you can pay a guest fee without being a member.

35 minutes from the main train station. soooo perfect for spending ones free time in spring and summer! one can even swim in the water because is clean and clear. I usually go in summer there , but even now (beginning of march) one can enjoy a day spend there

And try not to go on a weekend, when all the city people come out. There's more to see than you expect: the quirky Buchholz Museum neat Tutzing, the lovely Roseninsel, the Sissi museum at Possenhofen. Try the boat trip around the lake if all you want to do is relax and gaze at the mountain panorama.

I went on a bike ride with a friend from Starnberg to Tutzing during the summer. The scenery was stunning and there is a nice little island "Roseninsel" which you can either access by boat or even just swim across - it only takes 3 minutes. There are plenty of small beaches you can stop at for a dip in... More
