35 minutes from the centre of Munich on the S-Bahn (S8). Plenty of restaurants and beer gardens line the shores of the lake with stunning views. Take one of the many boat trips, we took the Großer Rundfahrt that lasted about three hours. on-board restaurant and bar for a very relaxing trip.

Truly breathtaking, it is my favourite lake. Perhaps because it was the first I ever visited in Bavaria, but there is a lovely beach bar, where you can view the mountain, and jump into the lake if you choose, and eat delicious Flammkuchen. Worth a day trip for sure.

We had 3 nights in Munich with our kids, and it was 33 degrees every day. We got the S8 line to Starnberg, and walked 15 mins to the Wasserpark (turn left out of the station, walking along the waterfront). The Wasserpark cost 12 euros for 4 of us, and we spent a lovely few hours sunbathing on the grass... More

This lake is easy to get to from Munich Hauptbahnhof. Just take the S6 towards Tutzing and get off at Starnberg. It is well worth the trip! Very relaxed. I spent the day relaxing and reading lakeside. Very relaxing :)

I've spent a week in Munich and the day at Starnberger lake was my favorite. It's really easy to get there with S-bahn. There you can decide to go on a boat trip - 1 or 3 hours long. I chose the long tour (17 €). During the long tour you can make two stops. I went to Tutzing, a... More

Starnberger See is a great place for spring/summer days! There are several places next to the lake where you can enjoy the view, sunbath or swim. I strongly recommend Undosa - orange umbrellas, sand (artificial), couches, chairs and a dock for sunbathing. Almost every weekend there is also a party organized there. If you would like to be on a... More

We spent a day here in August during a trip to Munich. It is only 35 minutes by train from the main station and as you step off you are 20 metres from the lake. It is beautiful and you can choose to either walk, cycle, swim or take a boat trip. I would definitely like to return

A lovely 3 hour boat trip round the large lake. It is comfortable inside and serves coffees, teas and beers. A better choice of food would have been welcome as it was quite limiting!

Starnberg has the reputation of being a bit stuck up. Nothing could be further from the truth. I was lucky to visit Bavaria during August 2015 when there was a heat wave . There is no where better in these conditions .
