Compared to other lakes (Konigsee and Forghensee), this one was so large that it felt like you were in a harbour as the mountains down south were so far away so the views were not as intimate nor the scenery as spectacular. Biking was also not that easy as the paths were not continuous, perhaps broken up by private properties... More

Very nice lake with a summer feeling! No need to take the car (parking is hard to find) but simply take the Sbahn!

We visited Lake Starnberg during a heat wave- it was incredibly busy but so worth it. A 1 hour train trip from Munich got us to Starnberg station. From there you walk 200m and you're at the lake. We walked left and hired a boat for an hour, did our own thing on the water for a bit. Had some... More

Another nice lake in Bavaria on the edge of an interesting town built in an elevated position. I have read about the lakes unfortunate past, forever being linked to the untimely death of Ludwig 11.

The S 6 from central station took us efficiently and quickly to Starnberger See. The lake is right by the station so as soon as you get off, you see the beautiful views of the lake and mountains in the background. We took an hour ferry trip which stops 3 times at picturesque villages right on the lake. If we... More

Beautiful lake. Wasserpark Starnberg was perfect for kids. For adults the public beach nearby is just as good. The bikeride or a walk alongside the lake is recommended.

The lake is a quick 1.5 hour S-Bahn ride from Munich Hbf. Starnberger See is bordered by hills, and on a good clear day one could spot the Bavarian Alps nearer to the Southern end of the lake. We took the Grand Tour (lasts 3-hour without stopping) and got off a couple of times to visit the villages of Possenhofen... More

Wonderful place to stay at the see a whole day. Use a boat, take a bike, enjoy a frisbee and get in contact with nice active people...
