We were on our way from Munich to Murnau on a sunny hot day and cycled the length of Starnberger. It is huge and lovely to look at. There are many elegant houses and it is clearly a very wealthy area. There are cafes and restaurants by the water and we stopped a couple of times to enjoy the view... More

We stopped overnight on our way from Lake Constance over to Austria. The lake is beautiful and the mountains make for a wonderful sight. But the town.... really misses the mark for such a lovely area. We were surprised, as it was slightly dirty and the pathway directly around the lake seemed a little seedy. Such a shame as we... If you have time you must go there. you can rent a bike or go by small boats to cruise the lake. Its excellent for swimming and walking. the water is cold like all german lakes, but refreshing. to get ther etake the s-bahn. That takes about 45 minutes from central station

When I visited Bavaria in May of 2010 for a transcultural nursing class, We were based in Starnberg at a lovely bed and breakfast. The Starnberger See is the large lake which the town surrounds. the water is crystal clear, you can catch a cruise touring the lake and the surrounding areas and sites, take the paddle boats out with... So glad that we visited this lake as it was such a fun day! Beautiful weather meant that there were people everywhere, made for a great atmosphere. The lake is beautiful and there is so much to see here. A market was along the water, lots of restaurants and cafes to chose from and also nice grassy, shady areas near... More

The ferry at Starnberger is a high quality luxury ship that is immaculately clean. It has very spacious decks with plenty of seating including sun loungers. There is a bar on the upper deck and on the deck below food and drinks can also be bought. The ship has FULL disabled access built into it's design including a special wheelchair... More

Where the locals go on their days off. Not far outside central Munich, this is a great way to relax for the day. Take a picnic, take out a boat and sit back. Check out the history, where the Dream King came to an unfortunate, suspicious end. It's a cool day out and you will go back.
