Lake Starnberg is a perfect day-trip getaway from the city. The train stops right at the lake and is a beautiful journey with great views of the Alps. You must take the boats around the lake. Its a hop on, hop off plan... check the schedule here: http://www.seenschifffahrt.de/fileadmin/daten/downloads/starnbergersee/STA_aktueller_Fahrplan.pdf You can eat and have a bier while soaking up the sun... Easy to get to on the S bahn from Munich. Nothing much happening in February but it was beautiful and peaceful with the Alps clearly visible across the lake. The town is quite pretty too with some nice cafes and a large modern church to explore. Try going up (literally!) to the old church of St. Josef from which there... More

it is a nice place, but a bit crouded on weekend. It is nice to make a boat trip. If you go by car it is quite difficult to find a place to park.

We drove to Lake Starnberg and wandered around the pretty little village of Possenhofen where the Empress Elisabeth grew up. The castle is now private residences but it is a pretty area for a walk. We then relocated nearer to Berg and wandered through the old castle woods to see the Votivkapelle and the memorial cross in the lake marking... More

You can go easily by S-Bahn and just leave the train in Starnberg. The station is located directly at the lake. If you go to the lake and turn left you will reach after a few hundred meters a place called UNDOSA. They made a place there like a beach and serve nice food and good drinks. Fantastic place. Furthermore... More

We got the S-Bahn (we had the CityCard and the cost of travel was met by that) down to Starnberger and then walked, initially along the lakeside and then on dedicated walkways through dense forest down to Poseenhofen - if we had a little more time we would have then continued down to Tutzing but we cheated and got the... My wife and I spent the day at Starnberger See during our visit this past Oktoberfest... As a child, our family used to visit the lake throughout the spring and summers as a get away from the big city of Munich... The lake has quaint little towns around it that offer great restaurants and cafes. We took the 3 hr.... More

Starnberg itself is a charming small town (not a suburb of Munich even though it seems like it on most public transportation maps) and the lake is gorgeous. I would recommend a rental car as it is difficult to get around with pub. trans. Upscale neighborhoods, not too many restaurants of you are looking for dinner. The small castle Possenhofen... More

The scenery was beautiful. At first we went to Stanberg town. Here we drank hot wine on a cafe on the lake. Then we took a train and went to Tutzing. There we ate our most delicious lunch at the restaurant of Hotel am See. We send our love to the cute Bulgarian waitress. She taught us to make table... More

Easy access with S-bahn from Munich to Starnberger Lake makes attractive this place. Nice lakeshore was really magical during the walking tour. Nice cafes and restaurants served Bavarian foods on the lakeshore were also perfect...
