This is one of the best museums of 20th and 21st-century art in the world. The special exhibition on E.L. Kirchner is particularly good, but there are other interesting special shows, and the permanent collection is fine, with several very good Picassos and a lot of German expressionism and beyond, There is also a very good exhibition of modern design.... We had a look at the Brandhorst, Alte and the der Moderne, and the latter was preferred, although the first 2 were most interesting. You can buy a collective admission ticket for all 4 museums for about 27 Euro which is good value for a days viewing. As often is the case with us, an accidental visit to the basement provided... I was at the reception area, and couldn't decide on which museum to head to. A kind visitor recommended the Modern section. And coincidentally, the museum was having an event and they had free entry for this museum... And so we went! It's filled with vehicles, and exhibitions from the last few decades. Interesting to keep us occupied for awhile.... More

I spent a full day here and could have stayed longer. I saw an excellent collection of modern art, including a room of Beckmans, a special and extremely well curated show of Kirchners works; an interesting collection of contemporary art; a superb and exceptionally well displayed design section, focus on furniture, and a good photography show. Do not miss this... More

The Design area in the basement was very nice as well as the architectural exhibition. Too small but good. The security people are extremely, terribly rude. They have no manners and cero idea how to treat visitors. They yelled at visitors as if they were jail guards. There are better modern museums anywhere.

well laid out and big enough to spend at least an hour in there. Not everything was up my alley, but was a good way to spend a rainy morning. Like everyone else said, go on a Sunday, each museum is only one Euro.

The Davis Shrigley exhibition is worth seeing. The art shop has some nice books and the staff were friendly

This museum is a great new addition to the "Pinakotheken". Some brilliant examples of 20th and 21st century art curated to an exceptional standard. the building itself appears stark at first glance but once inside one can't fail to be mesmerised. costs next to nothing on a Sunday and you don't get massive crowds. An absolute must for anyone interested... More

An average museum, and for such a massive building there did not seem to be that much inside it. Contrary to its bland expansive exterior the interior is impressive and by the far the best part of the museum. If you visit lots of modern art museums then there is not much you will see here that you haven't already... More

The gallery contains the best and worst of modern art. Great German expressionist (Dix, Kirchner Beckmann et al) from the 1920s and 1930s are exhibited in a wonderful series of bright and airy rooms. A must see for modern art lovers. The design collection in the lower floor, although interesting to the academics is also excellent for those interested in... More
