The gardens are nice, and very similar to Versailles, but if you've seen the ones in France, this is not comparable. Still, a nice walk, since the entrance is free. Did not go into the Palace, as I'm betting it's just like anyother palace from inside - but much smaller. Did the Residenz for that. More

The main schloss is interesting but surprisingly only a very small portion of the main building is open to the public. Clearly the other palaces in Europe were more impressive from a visitors's perspective. The grounds are enjoyable, especially on a sunny day. More

While in Munich, it is not near the city center. Not as glitzy or large as Versailles, but it is patterned somewhat after it. It predates King Ludwig's castles. More

The interior of the Schloss is impressive enough, but I what I really enjoy is the park and the canal leading up to the castle. In winter the canal is frozen and serves as a wonderful ice skating venue. Wrap yourself up nice and warm and dig your ice skates out of the cellar (or rent them there) and make... More

Build in 1664 by Kurfürst (Elector) Ferdinand Maria for his wife Adelheid of Savoye after their first son Max Emanuel was born, the castle was later enlarged by Max Emanuel. It is situated in a beautiful park in which small paviljons are situated, decorated as usual in that period in "chinese style" (chinoiserie) that is what the europeans though the... More
