The collection holds paintings from the 13th up to the 18th century, of german, flemish, dutch, french, italian and spanish artists. They are exhibited on two floors, normally one would need two days to see them all since after one floor (about 2,5 hours) one is to exhausted to appreciate what is next on the other floor. More

We spent most of the afternoon in this wonderful Art Gallery. We particularly enjoyed the Baroque, Italian and German Renaissance paintings. The audio guide was very helpful. More

My personal interests among the Old Masters are Rembrandt, Rubens, and the Italian Renaissance paintings. The Alte Pinakothek is spacious with high-ceilinged long halls and allows leisure stroll to inspect these masterpieces. Discovered the gem, Francois Boucher's Madame de Pompadour. If your schedule allows it, go on a Sunday for a reduced admission price (usually 1 Euro unless with special... More

If you like Northern Renaissance painting, this gallery is a must see. The collection is at least as strong on the Dutch, Flemish and German artists up to the late 17th century as that in the Louvre. It is surprisingly good on the Southern Renaissance as well. It is based on the Wittelsbach's collections over centuries, hence its strength. The... More

Everything about this gallery/museum is outstanding - the unusual architecture inside, the halls, the service. But of course, the masterpieces themselves will impress you. My favorite Brueghels are there (both Pieter the Old and Jan the Old), There are roomfuls of Rubens, multiple David Teniers and so on. Every room has a copy of well-illustrated and annotated guide, though in... More

It's as if the curator wanted to show the entire collection at once, there are far too many pieces to truly enjoy the experience. One, inevitably, finds that they are not really taking the time to appreciate each piece. More
