Marienplatz

Don't miss the Glockenspiel! It's wonderful. Also, this a good place to enjoy a traditional Munich white sausage, pretzel and beer anytime of the day.

Those are the times for the glockenspiel music in the tower. If this is your first time in Munich, in the same area you can walk to: 1- Viktualienmarkt, about 150 meters. 2- Hofbräuhaus, about 400 meters. 3- Odeonsplatz, about 300 meters. 4- Dallmyr, about 300 meters. Just map them and enjoy the city.

This large plaza is in front of the Neues Rathaus (New City Hall) and is a gathering place for the daily Glockenspeil performances. We were there on Mai Day and found it totally jammed with people. Thousands of people. banners, flags and balloons were everywhere. This was a friendly crowd and we felt very safe. We came back on a... More

Walking in Marienplatz allows you to take in the beauty of Munich. The mix of old and new is really well done with cathedrals, the old city walls, and new cafes. A must see if you are in Munich!

This is the center of everything in Munich. Standing in Marienplatz you can see the old and new city halls as well as some beautiful churches. It always has crowds, but well worth it. Also, Kaufhaus is next to Marienplatz in case you forgot something. They have it all.

Everything in the city center revolves around this historic landmark. Plenty of shopping and restaurants surround it.....and this has to be some of the best people watching in all of Munich. You will see everything Munich has to offer here.....all types from all over....truly the cultural center of the city. Try to time your visit around the Glockenspiel and show... More

The shops at Marienplatz are plentiful. You could easily spend hours shopping. There's a variety of retail stores from H&M, Zara to the high end boutique stores. Its the largest square in Munich, and you can find musicians performing in the square. There's also fruit stalls, and they sell reach fresh blackberries, cherries, blueberries etc. These fruits are cheaper than... More
