We visited on a Saturday in September 2014 and it was very crowded!!! Do keep in mind that sometimes the stores are only open one Saturday a month. Usually are closed on Sunday's so plan your shopping appropriately.

Marienplatz is the location of one of the Christkindlmarkts in Munich. There are several Christmas markets in the area, and by walking around the nearby streets you will find the others. There are so many wonderful handmade Christmas items available for purchase, as well as bratwurst and glühwein. The market is open daily, generally from late November until 24 December.... More

It maybe a walk just to spend time and feel Europe, or a urge for a shopping spree this area has something for all - the architecture being a mix of modern shops in old architecture is a striking combination.

In the heart of Munich, there is Marienplatz, with the awesome City Hall building, and not far from here you can find the famous Hoffbraus beer garden and other Munich highlights.

The area was totally different from a tropical place where we came from and the churches and old buildings were immaculately preserved. There were a lot of novelty shops around. I suggest you buy what you like because they are closed on Sundays which we missed.

Marienplatz is the center of Munich for us. It is a true pleasure to be there in the evening during holiday season with different food stalls and people hanging out. Love it!

The old and new town halls are amazing, really beautiful architecture, and the revolving people in the clock in the Neuesrathaus are very cute. It's a really nice space to wander about in, with lots of cafes to enjoy.
