I went to Neuschwanstein Castle as part of a castle tour arranged by my Hotel (City Centre Marriot in Munich). It was just such a magical experience to see such a wonderful creation. We went on a warm day, the walk up the hill was so refreshing and the view - my god it was breath taking. My tip is... more

A little pricey, but the interior is well worth the long walk up the side of the mountain and the 9eur to get in. Parking and rides up and down the mountain are extra, so if you are on a budget make sure to account for those expenses as well. You are not allowed to take pictures inside the castle... more

We were staying in Munich and decided to take the trip out to see Neuschwanstein. We ended up figuring a tour would be our best bet as it provided a well versed guide the price of the train ticket to Hohenschwangau and the entrance fee into the schloss. We used Radius tours which was perfect as it was located at... more

My husband and I just got back from a trip to Germany in April. We took a day trip from Munich to see the fairy tale Schloss Neuschwanstein. We used the Bayern pass which covered the train ride and also the bus from the train station up to the village below the castle. Everyone on here writes that you should... more

In a sentence if you are going to Hohenschwangau just for the castles it is not worth the trouble. The visit is only 35 minutes and for that it is hardly worth it, not matter how beautiful the castle is. Going to Hohenschwangau takes a long time and this is only worth it if you plan plenty of activities in... more

this is the castle of fairy tales, more fanciful than other castles within Europe. Advice - call at least 2 days in advance to reserve tickets if you are not on a tour. For contact information visit the website: http://www.neuschwanstein.com/englisch/tourist/index.htm Even off season tickets sell fast and there is a high likely hood you will be turned away at the... more

Though this castle isn't as old as others, it's unblelievably beautiful - don't miss the tour. We walked to Marienbrucke and then hiked all the way up above it (5,000 ft) but though it was only the first week of September it was snowing at the top and there was no hangliding or cable car running. So even though we... more

Be warned that if you are not travelling as part of a tour group you will have trouble getting tickets to enter the castle. We turned up on an ordinary, out-of-season Sunday to be told that the tickets had sold out and we were denied entry (having made the effort to get there!). Also, don't try getting tickets at the... more

The area beneath and surrounding the castle is quaint, but heavy on the tourist trappings. The restaurants are decent, but over-priced, and there are many shops selling "all things German" that foreigners love to scoop up. Be sure to walk to the small lake and view the swans. It is quite beautiful. The trip up the mountain is very physically... more

Nothing bad to say about our visit to Neuschwanstein. We took the bus from Schwangau (about €2 per person) and then a short (but steep) walk to the castle entrance. Our English tour was informative, but not overly long. The guide was friendly and answered all of my questions. Don't miss the bridge! The castle was nice, but the views... more
