We took the cable car up to the Alpspitz instead of the Zugspitz because we wanted to walk around and not worry about the altitude. Alpspitz altitude was fine, less than 6,000 feet where you walk around and then descend. The two platforms that hang out over the edge were neat but not everyone is emotionally ok with going out... We rented helmets and harnesses in a local climbing shop in Garmisch, and spent the day climbing the many routes around the base of the Alpspitz. It was unbelievable. We also added a little memento to the cross atop the mountain.

You can get a combined Zugspitz + Alpspitz ticket that lasts for 2 days but it is possible to do the two trips on the same day. The Alpspitz cable car takes you up to the top where there are these two platforms jutting from the side of the mountain out into thin air. It doesn't feel scary when you... More

Alpspitz is a much more affordable experience than Zugspitze for families. I do not know how it compares otherwise. We went up and enjoyed the tremendous views. There is a walkway that hangs you out over the side of the mountain that is pretty cool.

Easy to get up to via the seilbahn which is accessible from the Zugspitze Bahn (Zug) from GaPa. Once at the top station there is plenty to do ranging from nature walks for the kids, climbing instruction, Klettersteig routes which are well equipped and able to be completed by novices. The restaurant offers a good selection of food and beer.... More

We went up to Alpspitz on the same day after visiting Zugspitze, we had no luck at Zugspitze as too cloudy and we were hoping we could get a nice view at Alpspitz. It would be much cheaper to buy a value tickets for both mountains if you plan to visit both. We could still see at half way through... More

Went up the Kreuzeckbahn (to 1651m), walked up a bit (to 2050m) and came back down the Alpspitzbahn (which ends up about 200 metres from the Kreuzeckbahn station). This is yet another lovely ride / walk on highish hills - a bit more open than some, through interesting limestone formations and ending up at a pair of cantilevered viewing platforms... More

To go here you'll need to pay 25 Euro per person (no student discounts, unfortunately) for the cable car line called Alpspitzbahn (park you car for free in Landeplatz). This will get you just next AlpspiX platform (Osterfelderkopf station). From here you have quite a lot of choices: - Go up the Alpspitze summit. - Chill in the beer garden,... More

With the weather change we had to go look for snow. It was beautiful up in the mountains. a bit pricy but the view make up for it.
