A Must for Baroque Lovers-Otherworldly

This church is extraordinary. The beauty of the baroque interior is otherworldly. Neumann outdid himself when he created the interior. Definitely a must for architecture lovers.

The exterior of the Church is currently being renovated, but the attraction is the inside anyways. It is a triumph of the German Baroque at its most extreme ,the result is somewhat puzzling including a huge monument in the middle of the Church. The light colors and the ever present Gold make the place luminous and festive including the confessionals. Not... More

I have wanted to visit this church since I first saw pictures of it in an architecture class in college almost 40 years ago. Finally made the trip last week and was not disappointed-except that the towers on the exterior are covered by scaffolding and constructions tarps! Oh well, the interior is magnificent and the story behind the reason for... More

We have visited many churches in Europe. This is by far one of most impressive! It must have been even more impressive/inspiring when it was built. My wife has been showing/talking about this church in her University Humanities class for years. Finally we got to see it. It certainly was well worth the drive.

Outstanding Baroque church by Balthasar Neumann - church as theatre. Other reviewers have described the interior superbly, so there's no point in doing so in this review. Saturdays seem to be the day when pilgrimage groups arrive, and we saw two large groups, each with their own wind band, arrive in the church to be welcomed warmly by one of... More

This is the most beautiful church I have every visited in the world and I have visited a lot of churches throughout Europe. Once you walk in, there is an immediate difference when compared to other churches. It is just an incredible feeling to be at this church and to understand why the church was built. If you walk to... Situated a half hour's drive north of Bamberg, the Vierzehnheiligenkirche is well worth a detour for those in the Franconia region of northern Bavaria. The center altar, with a unique depiction of the "helper" saints, is unique in terms of the manner in which it is situated in the center of the church (centuries prior to Vatican II), and the... We were at Banz Abbey and we could see this place off in the distance. So we said “let’s go over there!”. We were stunned at the beauty we found. The outside of the church and the grounds were breathtaking but the interior left us speechless. The carvings and artwork are fantastic. It was all dressed up for Christmas which... More

This is an amazing church with unbelievable architecture. When we first arrived we could not believe how huge the compound was. There are several buildings on the grounds. The area has a restaurant, a hotel, multiple gift shops, a brewery, and many other sights. I highly recommend you visit during warmer weather. This place is very cold in the winter.... More

Just over a half hour easy drive from Nuremberg, the Vierzehnheiligen Church offers a sumptuous, sensorially rich feast. In an architecturally rich setting, the 14 Helper Saints are all given exquisite depictions. A dizzying effect, but worth the trip if you are interested in unusual historic sites, architecture, and sheer beauty. Drate- no interior photography permitted.
