This place holds some of the original statues and gargoyles from the Munster that are weathered and can't be repaired. Also a great explanation about how craftsmen went about their work in building the Munster. Some art work and gold/silver pieces from monasteries and churches around the region too.

If you like history and churches then this is the museum for you. Lots of gargoyles and historic religious exhibitions. Be sure to check out the huge pipe organ, although it is not operational sadly.

This is one of those nice little museums that is just the right size for spending an hour or so. Close up views of some of the sculptures from the Muenster and a few interesting art works.

The centre of historic Freiburg is dominated by the gothic munster, which was not at all to my taste. I found it depressing and creepy but several of the stone carvings from the steeple have been replaced whilst the old guys find their final resting place in this amazing museum. Hats off to the architect who designed this place, it... More

This museum houses some very fine paintings by German artistis such as Grünewald, Hans Baldung Grien and Lucas Cranach. Works date from the early middle ages (1100) until today. Most impressive are the larger-than-life statues of the prophets from the cathedral, displayed in the museum's main hall. If you like wooden structures the opportunity to see the roof structure on... The tickets at this museum cover all 5 of the municipal museums. There is currently an exhibition on sketches by pencil and pen on one floor but the main exhibits are pieces from the Cathedral including some of the gargoyles and outside statues. We had a recital on the magnificent organ during our visit.

Marvellous collection of paintings and sculptures form the Middle Ages to early 19th Century. Many original parts of the cathedral are exhibited at the museum

Small but with some worthwhile exhibits especially of external figures which had to be removed from their place on the cathedral. Can be covered easily in half an hour.

Contains architectural relics from the neighboring cathedral, and some other artwork. All descriptions in German. You do know a gargoyle when you see one, don't you? A combo ticket gets you into several Freiburg museums, a good deal. Nice museums for a city that's not that big.
