What the heck is a "bachle"? It is simply a waterway that runs along many streets in Freiburg. It has a lot of history and gives Freiburg something very unique. The locals say that if you accidentally step in, then you need to marry a nice Freiburg girl!

These things are sprayed all over the city center,after visiting this city for an almost bi-yearly basis for the past 20 years,i still find this bachle interesting, and still cant resist taking off my shoes and sock & walking in the bachle barefooted "however,unlike urban legend,im still not married to a freiburger woman"

They are found all over the city. Very unique! We just followed those bachles all through town!

The first day we were in Freiburg these little streams weren't running, but by the second day, they were running quite strongly. What a charming addition to an already charming town.

The little brooks which are found running through a number of streets are charming, but remember to watch where you're walking! Turned ankles hurt in any language, and worse, you could take a spill.
